Apparatus for shaping paper containers or paper boxes having flat or rectangular bottoms is known in which the blank is shaped in a shaping channel by means of a former. The arrangement already exists of mounting rollers which roll on the forwardly-moved former on two opposed lateral walls of the former. These rollers have previously been provided with cut-away portions in such manner that, on the displacement of the former, the projecting bottom flap parts are inserted in the cut-away portions,- and on the further advance of the former the bottom flap parts are folded in laterally by the rotating rollers.
The present invention aims at producin sharp corners at the folding positions by the use of rollers or discs provided with cutaway portions of this kind. For this purdriven and they must be given a differentiated peripheral velocity in relation to the speed of the former.
The matter ,can be arranged so that the rollers or discs, into the cut-away portions of which the projecting bottom flap parts enter are driven at a greater peripheral velocity than the speed of the former, so that when the bottom flap parts are folded in sharp corners are produced.
The control of the peripheral velocity of the rollers or discs is now determined accordin to the shape of the effective limiting edge 0 the cut-away portion.
If the cut-away portion .has rectilinear limits then the discs or rollers are driven at a non-uniform speed, so that until the rectilinear edge of the cut-away portion has been placed on the part of the bottom flap remaining erect, they run at increased speed and afterwards at reduced speed, in order to prevent the bottom flaps which remain erect from being pressed through.
If the edge of the cut-away portion used in the foldingprocess is curved, then the rollers or discs will rotate at uniform speed in order that after the folding of the bottom part the curved part shall roll on/the parts of the bottom flap remaining standing.

As can be seen from Fig. 2, the formers 3 are pivotally attached at regular intervals to the chain 2 passing over the wheels 1. On rising, the former 3 arrives at a guideway 4 on which it is moved in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 2. Here .it comes into contact with the aper-containerblank- Z which is displaced y means of the pair of conveyer rollers, this blank being of rectangular form. When the former 3 enters the channel 6, which is formed by the two horizontal walls 7, the blank Z is first of all formed into U-shape by the.former 3.
The former then comes into the path of the two discs 8 arranged on both sides of the channel 6, the shape of which discs is shown in Fig. 2. common axle 9 to which the gear wheel 10 is also attached. The latter engages with the gear wheel 12 mounted on the axle 11, on which is also mounted an elliptical gear wheel which meshes with the elliptical gear wheels 14 mounted on the axle 15. The latter is driven by the shaft 19 through the sprocket wheels 16, 17v and the chain 18, this shaft being in its turn driven by the chain 20.
The discs 8 now fold in the bottom side flaps, and the mode of operation is illustrated particularly in Figs. 4-7.
Fig. 4 shows the position Where the cutaway edges :12 of the disc 8 just come into contact with the bottom side flaps u. Now the discs 8 are brought at increased speed into the position shown in Fig. 5, in which the edge a; has folded the bottom side flap u with a sharp bend. Thereupon the positions shown in Figs. 6 and 7 are assumed in turn, the speed of the disc 8 being somewhat reduced in relation to the speed of the former 3. By means These discs are mounted on a of the sliding surfaces 21 arranged behind the disc 8 the two bottom flap parts are then folded, as shown in Fig. 1. Then the upper side flaps are placed around the shaping block by the folding members 22 arranged behind the surfaces 21, so that the paper container shown in Fig. 1 is obtained.
In the type of construction just described, the disc 8 must be driven at different peripheral velocities, which is effected by the introduction of the elliptical gear wheels 13 and 14.
Figs. 8-11 show a type of construction in which the discs 8' which correspond to those of the first type of construction, can rotate at a uniform speed. For this purpose the edge a: of the'disc 8 (see Fig. 8) must not be radial as in the type of construction shown in Figs. 2-7 but must be formed in a curve.

Figs. 10 and 11 show successive positions on the further rotation of the disc 8. Thus points of the curved part ai remote from the centre always come into operation successively, whereby in the folding of the bottom flap part particularly sharp bends are made.
In the two forms of construction described above, two cut-away discs 8 or 8 are used for folding in the lower side flaps. It is selfevident that instead of the two flat cut-away discs, rollers can be used which are shaped in such manner that they stand on one edge and are cut away so that, as in the case of the two above-described forms of construction, an edge :1; comes into operation which per- I forms the folding.
Having thus described the nature of the said invention and the best means I know of carrying the same ,into practical effect, I claim 1. Apparatus for shaping paper containers or cardboard boxes with flat rectangular bottoms in'which the blank is shaped in a shaping channel by means of a former and rollers or discs with cut-away portions engage at two opposed sidc walls of the former for the pur pose of folding in one side flap, characterized in that the rollers or discs. into the cut-away portions of which the projecting bottom flap parts enter, are driven at a higher peripheral speed than the speed of the former in order that in the folding of the bottom flap part sharp bends are obtained.
2. Apparatus according to claim '1, characterized in that the cut-away portion is rectilinear and the discs or rollers are driven at non-uniform speeds, so that first of all they run at increased speed until the rectilinear cut-away edge rests on the parts of the bottom flap remaining erect, and later at a reduced speed in order to prevent the parts of the bottom flap remaining erect from being pressed through.
3. Apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that the marginal part of the cut-away portion used for the folding process is bent in a curve and the rollers or discs rotate at a uniform speed so that after the folding of the bottom flaps the curved part rolls on the parts of the bottom flaps remaining erect.
