Fig. 4 is a view of the parts shown in Fig. 3 after they have been Vcompletely assembled; and
Fig. 5 is a section taken on the line 5--5 of Fig. 4.
With reference'to the drawings, I have shown a D-handle which includes a casing 1 preferably formed from sheet metal and combined with the split end o'l' a stale 2 and a grip piece 3, as shown in Fig. 1. The general con- M3U struction of the handle, except for the means by which the casing partsare secured together, and the method of assembly of the three parts of the handle is substantially the same as shown and more fully describedin ms my (zo-pending application Serial No. 341,131,
filed February 19, 1929. Since my presentinvention relates to improvements in the casing and the method of assembling the parts thereof, it will not be necessary to describe 1n i 0 detail the general construction of the handle and the method of assembly. f
My improved casing 1 is formed from two identical hollow sheet metal parts, each'of which is semicylindrical in cross-section and 'i y45 has a flat face provided by'inwardly bent flanges 4, 4, asshown in Figs; 4 and Each part also has a vertical flange 5 adjacent to the stale-receiving end anda hook shaped portion 6 extending from one end of a llange i 4, as best shown in Fig. 2.

When the parts are vassembled by the CFI method just described they are securely fixed together at one end and the outer surface is smooth and presents a neat appearance.
lVhile I have illustrated and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not Wish to be limited thereto because the scope of my invention is best defined by the following claims, some of which are intended to be of such scope as to cover other variations.
Claims:
l. rl`he method ofmaking a D-handle having a metal casing formed in two hollow parts having means adjacent to one end adapted to be interlocked which comprises securing the parts together by approaching them face to face toward each other with the axis of one at an angle to the other and then turning the parts relative to each other to bring` their axes in alignment and lock the easing parts together by engagement of the interlocking means and thereafter attaching the casing to the split end of a stale.
2. The method of making a D-handle having a metal casing formed in two hollow parts having means adjacent to one end adapted to be interlockedwhich comprises securing the parts together by approaching them face to face toward each other with the'axis of one at an angle to the other and then turning the parts relative to each other to bring their axes in alignment and lock the easing parts togetherby engagement of the interlocking j means, splitting the end of a stale to provide a pair of connecting portions, securing the stem to the casing by longitudinal approaching movement thereby forcing the connecting portions of the stale into the hollow parts of the casing, bending the casing parts and connecting portions of the stale together into substantially a Y-shaped formation and then securing a grip between the open ends of the Y-shaped formation.
3. The method of assembling the parts of a metal D-handlec'asing having two parts each of which, adjacent to the stale-receiving end, has a vertical flange and a hook-like portion and a flat face, the hook-like portion extending from the fiat inner face at one side of theV center thereof which comprises approaching one of said parts toward the other with one fiat faceV toward the other and with one part having its longitudinal axisv at an angle to the longitudinal aXis of the other thereby to permit the hook-like portions to pass beneath the edges of the flat faces and thereafter to turn the two parts to bring their axes into alignment and engage the hook-like l portions beneath the edges of the fiat faces.
` 4. The method of assembling the parts of a metal Dhandle casing having two parts each` of which7 adjacent to Vthe stale-receiv 'ing end, has a hook-like portion and a fiat face, the hook-like portion extending from the fiat inner face at one side of the center thereof which comprises approaching one of said parts toward the other with one fiat face toward the other and with one part having its longitudinal axis at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the other thereby to permit the hooklike portions to pass beneath the edges ofthe Hat faces and thereafter to turn the two parts to bring their axes into alignment 'and engage the hook-like'portions beneath the edges of the fiat faces.
Y 5. 'I he method of assembling the parts of ametal D-handle casing having two parts each of which, adjacent to the stale-receiving end, has a verticalliange and a hook-like portion and a fiat face, the hook-like portion extending from the flat inner face at one side ofthe center thereof which comprises approaching one of said parts toward the other with one flat face toward the other and with one part having its longitudinal axis at an angie to the longitudinal axis of the other thereby to permit the hook-like portions to pass beneath the edges of the fiat faces and thereafter to turn the two parts to bring their axes into alignment and engage the hook-like portions beneath the edges of the flat faces and the vertical flanges'overthe edges of the cooperating parts and then welding the two parts together at the overlapped vertical flanges.
In testimony whereof7 I have signed my name to this specification.
