MAIL BOX Filed July 2e. 1930 ma W www/"ew 5 ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Jan. 26, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CHARLES FOTI, OF ARNOLD, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-TENTH. TOl NICK COLAYCO,
ONE-TENTH TO PETER ZURENA, ONE-TENTII TO ANTONIO SAULLI, ONE- TENTI-I TO ANGELO TANI, ONE-TENTH TO ANTERO PEROTTI, ONE-TENTI-I IO FRANK E. ELSTON, ONE-TENTH TO GIOVANNI SPERANZA, ONE-TENTH TO LAWRENCE MARSILIO, AND ONE-TENTI-I T0 IOE SINEGAL, ALL OF ARNOLD, PENNSYLVANIA MAIL BOX Application led July 26,
This invention relates to lighting devices or lamp boxes for residence numbers, mail box identifications and the like.
One of the principal objects of the invention consists of a swing-ably supported cover for the box to permit access thereto whereby the legendary characters may be maintained in clean readable state.
y An additional object of the invention contemplates the provision and arrangement of a locking mechanism for the lamp box whereby access thereto by unscrupulous persons will be prevented.
y llVith the above and other objects in view,
'J the invention further consists of the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure l is a front elevation of a forni of `mail box embodying the essential characteristics of the invention.
,. Figure 2 is a vertical sectional View taken through the immediate portions of the mail box and standard therefor.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3--3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4C is a frzwmentar )ers )ective 'View di) C G of the mail box standard.
In the figures of the drawing is illustrated a mail box or the like having a cover plate hingedly mounted upon the front there- 35 of and lockingly secured upon the under side i of the bottom wall after the manner of the form of invention previously described. Instead of cutting away the major portion of the cover plate and mounting a transparent .m panel in lieu thereof7 a transparent panel reposes against the rear side of the cover plate and the only rays of light emitted therethrough will also pass through slots in the cover plate proper provided by the stenciling y, of the latter. The same structural details may be embodied in lamp boxes primarily 1930. Serial N0. l171,021.
designed for the exhibition of house numbers and the like. The mail box is provided with a rearwardly slanting top wall 35 to shed or otherwise drain moisture away from the letter slot 36 and the hingedly mounted cover plate or panel. A standard 37 for the box is preferably of tubular formation to provide a conduit for an electric cord or wire 38 having electric connection with a socket 39 projected through the rear wall of the mail box. A lamp bulb 40 carried by the socket 39 is arranged immediately in advance of a reflector il by means of which rays of light may be focused toward the transparent panel and shine through the portions removed in the cover plate formed by the stenciling thereof. The conduit or standard 37 is split longitudinally and horizontally thereof and upon one side to provide attaching ears 4t2 and a supporting ledge 43 respectively which cooperate in the maintenance of the mail box in the position shown in Figure 2 of the drawings.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is In an illuminated mail box, a closure plate hingedly mounted upon one side thereof having portions removed for the exhibition of identification matter in stencil form, a transparent panel supported upon the rear side of the stenciled hingedly mounted closure plate, a conduit for the illuminating means, said conduit forming a transverse ledge for seating a portion of the box thereon, and ears carried by and outwardly projecting from the conduit above the ledge for connection with the rear wall of the box.
In testimony whereof I afx my signature.
