My invention relates to receptacles Jfor delivered packages and a special object off iny improvements is to provide a receptacle for periodicals or inail in rural tree delivery.

rlfhe part Ll is of a similar construction to the part 3, but complementary thereto. The 'liront 1s open, the top 4& extends forward and u curves upward in the leaf 4&2. There are end pieces fl-I), 4b which fit against and outside of the end pieces 35, 32% and there is a back 40. The part 4 is hinged to the part 3 by pivots 34 in the lower left hand corner of the end pieces 8b, and lib.

The messenger or postnian may drive past this rec ptacle and thrust the mail in through the open trout. lt it is not accurately placed it will be guided to position by the leaves 3&2,

, 4&2@ and the part -l may rise to accommodate the size of the package, or if the delivery is inade at too high a point so as to prevent the bundle of mail entering the receptacle in the usual way the part 4 will rise, yielding to the in'ipact of the package turning about its hinge and guiding the package to its place.

The end pieces 4J) litting down beside the end pieces 37) prevent the entrance of any `nfater and the leal 4&2 turning upward and extendino to the front shields the open front of the receptacle. All exposed edges are corrugated so that they will not cut the hands that may aceidentaly strike against them.

lVhat I claim is:

l. A receptacle for Inail consisting of two parts hinged together so that the upper part 6o may turn about a horizontal axis at its rear edge and forming an enclosure with its front portion open, the upper part being provided with a leatl 4&2 extending forward and upward over the open front and the lower portion having a leaf extending forward and downward below the open front.

2. A receptacle for mail consisting of two parts hinged together so that the upper part may turn about a horizontal axis at its rear edge and forming an enclosure with its front portion open, the upper part being provided with a lea-'f 4&2 extending forward and upward over the open 'front and provided with side pieces adapted to Vfit against the side i pieces of the lower part, :tor the purpose de-l scribed.
