Description
A. F.-WHITING. I PATTERNSVFOR CASTING.
No.184,194. Patented Nov. 7,1876.
WITNESSES INVENTOR A-TTORN EYS.
ANDREW F. WRITING,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF CBE-STLINE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENTIN PATTERNS FOR CASTING.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent bio/184,194, dated November 7, 1876; application filed March 23, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW F. WHITING, of Orestline, in the county of Crawford and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Patterns; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which-'- i Figure l is a plan view of my seal-pattern. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof with its removable plates removed. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the same with its removable plates in place. Fig. 4 is a viewlooking at it edgewise, and Figs. 5 and 6 are detached views of the removable plates.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are designated by like letters.
This invention relates to a certain improvement in patterns for casting seals for bolts; and it consists of a cylinder, from opposite sides of which extend arms or rails, between and upon which slide lettered or numbered plates, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, A refers to the pattern, having its wings A A constructed with the openings a a to receive the removaseals may be cast from the same pattern, each differently numbered or lettered, the said plates having inscribed thereon letters or figures, or both. b is the sprue, which forms the gate to the mold of the pattern, through which to pour the liquefied metal.
The object of this construction of seal-pat tern is obviously to stamp or mark the seal when cast to indicate the destination of the car to which it may be attached, and to denote, in the event of its surreptitious entrance, the place of the breaking of the seal.
Having thus described my invent-ion, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is-
The pattern consisting of the cylinder A, from opposite sides of which extend arms or rails a, a, between and upon which slide lettered or numbered plates A A substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' ANDREW F. WHITING.
