Description

H. LAMPUS.
BOOT AND SHOE CRIMPIN'G APPARATUS. No .184,088.
Patented Nov.7,18 76.
mTuassas:
ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
HENRY LAMPUS, OF ENON VALLEY, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOOT AND SHOE CRIM PING APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,088, dated November 7, 1876; application filed August 21,1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY LAMPUS, of Enon Valley, in the county of Lawrence and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Boot-Orimper of which the following is a specification Figure l is a side elevation, in section, on line at m in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line y 3 in Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts. The invention relates to the construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
A is a frame, consisting of the bed-piece a. the columns I), and yoke or cross-bar c. B B are adjustable plates, provided with the bolt (1 and hand-wheel (2, also with set-screws f at their lower edges, and the nibs or hooks 9, that hook under the edge of the bed-piece a. G is a plate, which carries the leather to be crimped. It is provided with a curved projection, h, at the instep, for giving the bootupper the natural form of the foot, and to facilitate crimping the leather.
The form of the edges of the plates B B is the exact counterpart or reverse of the plate 0, being cut away or hollowed out at i, where other machines are full and rounded.
A screw, D, engages with a thread in the yoke c, and is provided at its lower end with a conical head, and at its upper end with a hand-wheel, j. A socket is formed around the conical head of the screw in the upper edge of the plate 0, so that the plate is moved up or down with the screw.
The plates B B are capable of moving within a limited distance on the bed-piece a. The plate 0 has formed on one edge a sleeve, k, which slides upon the post l,that projects upward from the bed-piece.
The leather to be crimped is placed under the plate 0, and it is forced down between the plates B B by the screw D, the distance between the plates being adjusted, by the bolt d and screwsf, to the work in hand.
The form of the plates not only causes the leather to crimp smoothly and evenly without wrinkls, but the boot made of an upper crimped 011 this machine is not liable to Wrinkle in the instep, and is more comfortable to wear than those crimped in the usual way.
The saving of time is'cousiderable, as the whole process known as drawing and smoothing? may be dispensed with.
The machine may be made of any materials suitable'for the purpose.
The form and arrangement of the parts shown and described are considered convenient and desirable.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of the plates 13 B, nibs g, and bed a, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the plate 0, sleeve K, and post I, substantially as shown and described.
HENRY LAMPUS.
