And a further object of the invention is to provide a table leg hinge with means for fastening it to the table frame located wholly within the frame and not exposed at the top or sides of the table.

Referring to the drawingsthe table frame 4, the top 5 and the legs 6 maybe made'of any size, shape or material but my invention is :'35 particularly adapted and intended for use on card tables and, thereformf have shown it embodied in acard table having a rectangnn lar frame made of wood strips,a top made of light material and turned wood legs. The hinge comprises a support member 7 which is arranged across a. corner of the frame and has its ends 7 bent to lie flatly against the sides of the frame to which theyare fastened by screws 8. rllhe pivot member of the hinge is fastened rigidly to the leg and is pivoted on one side to the frame and on the other side to the support member and this pivot memn The arm 10 has a portion 10 adjacent the cross bar 9 which is substantially perpendicue lar to the cross bar and this portion'is fastened to an ear'12 on thesupport'by a pivot pin or rivet 13. Thearm 10 is inclinedv inwardly from the pivotA end 10.y to theouter end 14 which is flattened and secured tothe leg 6 by a screw 15; I. rEhe earf12 is bent to dispose the vface thereof/parallel with the side of the frame into which-the screwl 16 is eX- tended. Thus the` elongated arm 10 not only acts'as a pivot connection between the leg and the frame but it also .fbraces the leg against inward and outward movement. The short'arin 11 is fastened by a pivot screw 16 to the frame opposite the pivot 13,.and is also fastened by screws 17 to the leg.` The sho-rt arm is bentat 11 to oii'set that portion thereof fastened to the leg'and to space the .legfrom the Vframe and provide room for the locking brace 18 which is pivoted at 19 onthe frame and has a slotted end 2O toengage a keeper 21 on the leg. A pin 22 on the frame forms' a stop "and vwhen the leg is in open position andthe slot in the brace is engagedwith the leeper,'as shown in Fig. 3, the brace will be held in this position to lock the leg rigidly in open and upright position.` riLhe engagement of the slot with the keeper need be slight to hold theparts and since the stop 22 is located close to the pivot ofthe brace the latter may be forced sufficiently' at its-outer end to disengage the slot from the keeper so that the leg may Abe" folded. the open swinging movement and prevents closed swinging movement of the leg, thereby bracing it in two directions when fully opened.

I have described the invention as applied to a card table because this is a use of the invention for which it is primarily intended but it will be apparent that it can be used for other linds of tables and even for other kinds of furniture or devices in the saine manner and with the same desirable results; and I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts of the invention` as may be necessary or desirable for different uses thereof or otherwise a: d within the scope of the following claims:

I claim:

1. The combination of a frame having a corner and a leg therefor, of a hinge pivotally connecting the leg to the frame and comprising a support member extending across the corner and fastened to the frame, and a pivot member comprising a substantially straight short arm and an inclined long arm connected at their inner ends by a cross bar and fastened at their outer ends to the leg and pivotally mounted on the support member between its ends and on an opposite part of the frame.

2. The combination of a frame having a corner and a leg therefor, of a hinge pivotally connecting the leg to the frame and comprising a support member extending across the corner and fastened to the frame, and a pivot member comprising one arm fastened to the leg and pivoted to the frame and another elongated oppositely disposed inclined arm fastened to the leg and pivoted to the support between the ends of the support and a cross bar connecting the upper ends of said arms.

The combination of a frame having a corner and a leg therefor, of a two-part hinge pivotally connecting the leg to the frame and comprising a support member extending across the corner and fastened at its ends to the frame, and a one-piece pivot membexl comprising a substantially straight short arm and an inclined long arm connected at their inner ends by cross bar and fastened at their outer ends to the leg, and pivot devices engaging said arms adjacent the cross bar and pivotally mounting the pivot member on the frame and the support.

The combination of a frame having a corner and a leg therefor, of a hinge pivotally connecting the leg to the frame and comprising a one-piece support member and a onepiece pivot member, said support member extending across the corner and fastened at its ends to the frame and having a dependent ear, and said pivot member comprising a cross bar, a short arm and a long arm, said cross bar connecting the upper ends of said short and long arms, said short arm being raadsels substantially straight and fastened to the leg and pivoted to the frame, and said long arm being inclined and fastened to the leg and pivoted to said ear.

5. The combination of a frame having a corner and a leg therefor, of a hinge pivotally connecting the leg to the frame and comprising a one-piece support member extending across the corner and fastened to the frame, and a one-piece pivot member comprising a substantially straight short arm and an inclined long arm connected at their inner ends by a cross bar and fastened at their outer ends to the leg and pivotally mounted on the support member between its ends and on an opposite part of the frame, and a keeper on the leg, and a locking brace pivoted at one end to the frame and adapted to interloclringly engage said keeper at its other end.

6. The combination of a frame having a corner and a leg therefor, of a hinge pivotally connecting the leg to the frame and comprising a one-piece support member and a onepiece pivot member, said support member eX- tending across the corner and fastened at its ends to the frame, said pivot member comprising a substantially straight short arm and an inclined long arm connected at their innerends by a cross bar and fastened at their outer ends to the leg and being pivoted to the support member at a point between the ends of said support member and to an opposite part of the frame, and said leg being secured in said pivot member adjacent that part of the frame to which the pivot member is pivoted, and spaced from that part of the support member to which the pivot member is pivoted.

7. The combination of a frame having a corner and a leg therefor, of a two-part hinge pivotally connecting the leg to the frame and comprising a support member extending across the corner and fastened at its ends to the frame, a one-piece pivot member comprising a substantially straight short arm and an inclined long arm connected at their inner ends by a cross bar and fastened at their outer ends to the leg, means adjacent the cross bar pivotally connecting said pivot member to one side of the frame, an ear on said support member having the face thereof disposed toward the side of the frame to which said pivot member is connected, and means adjacent the cross bar pivotally connecting said pivot member to said bar.
