This invention relates to a measuring bottle designed primarily for use in carrying and measuring medicines, but it is to be understood that a bottle in accordance with this I invention maybe used for any purpose'for which the same is found to be'applicable.
The principal object of the invention is to provide, in a manner hereinafter-set forth, a bottle of the class above referred to by means of which varying quantities of liquid of accurate proportions may be measured and discharged.
A further object of the invention is to provide a measuring bottle for the purpose aforesaid which is designed ina manner to provide for the transfer of a portion of the contents thereof from the storage compartment to the discharge compartment without bringing the transferred portion into contact with the stopper for the discharge compartment, thereby guarding the contents of the bottle against contamination by the stopper, and protecting the hands from becoming soiled by the contents when the stopper is removed, and further providin for the removal of the stopper, if desired, before any portion of the contents is transferred to the discharge compartment. ,1 A further ob'ect of the invention isto provide a bottle the class aforesaid, which is constructed in a manner to. permit a quantity being transferred from the storage com art- I ment to the discharge compartment and discharged from the latter without the inadvertent transfer of any additional amount, a so long as a quantity equal to the transferred quantity remains in the storage compartment. Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 1 indicates the body portion of my improved bottle, such body portion being of oblong shape in cross section and merging at one end into a breast portion 2 which termimates in a neck portion 3 extending at an an- 35 gle to the lon itudinal lane of the body portion, as 'wel as to t e transverse planes the major and minor dimensions thereof.
Substantially at the line of mergence between the body and breast portions 1 and 2 is a partition 4 which divides the interior of the bottle into a storage compartment 5 and a discharge compartment 6, A suitable filler neck 7. having a closure cap 8 is provided on the body portion 1 whereby the storage oompartment 5 may have any suitable in ent, such as a liquid medicine, intr uoed therein. The partition 4 is of elongated shape to conform with the cross sectronai 1% til openings will be in vertical alinement, and
when the body portion 1 is positioned with its greater cross sectional dimension disposed vertically, the openings will be in horizontal alinem'ent. The openings 9 and 10 are furthor disposed relative to each other and to the neck 3 so that when the body portion 1 is disposed in measuring position, the opening 10 will be directly above the opening 9 asshown in Figure 4, and when the body portion 1 is disposed in position to prevent any interchange of the contents of the compartments 5 and 6, the openings will be at substantially the same level and further will be oppositely disposed with respect to the neck 3, as shown in Figure 5.
In Figure 2, there is illustrated at 11 the liquid level of a full quantity or dose which may be contained within the discharge compartment 6 without the use of a stopper for the neck 3, or without coming in contact with a stopper, such as 12, in the event that a stopper is employed. The contents of the breast portion 2 and neck portion 3 as shown in Figure 2 are equal to the entire volume of the neck portion 3 with the stopper 12 in position. There is also illustrated in Figure 2, at 13, the level of a quantity of liquid within the storage compartment 5 equal to that contained within the discharge compartment 6. It will be noted that such a quantity within the storage compartment is sufficient to efiec-, tively seal the openings 9 and 10 against the atmosphere. In Figure 6, the bottle is shown tilted to discharge position, and in such position, the level of the liquid remaining in the storage compartment 5 is indicated at 14.. It is to be noted that the level as shown at 14 is materially above the level of the openings 9 and 10, which illustrates that a measured quantity materially less than the full neck quantity above mentioned, may be retained within the compartment 6, with the openings 9, and 10 effectively sealed by a corresponding quantity within the compartment 5.
When it is desired to transfer a portion of the contents-of the compartment 5 to the compartment 6, the bottle is positioned in the manner' illustrated in Figures 1 and 4, in which position air enters the compartment 5 through the opening 10 and forces liquid through the opening 9 into the compartment 6. When the desired amount has passed. into the compartment 6, the bottle is rotated axially 90 to assume the position illustratedin Figures 2 and 5, in which position the openings 9 and 10 are closed by the liquid remaining within the compartment 5 and any further interchange of liquid between the compartments 5 and 6 is the angular relation 0 the neck portion 3 to the body portion 1, the neck portion'is disposed at an upward inclination from the body portion when the latter is in measuring posi-' tion and when axially rotated 90 therefrom to pro-pouring position. When it is desired to discharge the contents of the compartment 6, the bottle is tilted to the position illustrated in Figure 6.
The openings 9 and 10 remain closed during the tilting operation thereby preventing any further quantity of llquid being passed to the compartment 6 during the emptying operation of the latter. Preferably the outer walls of the breast and neck portions 2 and 3 rerevented. Owing to spectively will be calibrated as indicated at 15 and 16, and. the neck will be provided with a pouring lip as. indicated at 17.
It is thought that the many advantages of a measuring bottle in accordance with this invention will be readily apparent, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to, so long as such changes fall within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A measuring bottle comprising, a body portion, abreast portion at one end of the ody portion, a neck portion extending from the breast portion, and a partition substantially at the line of joinder between the body and breast portions, said partition having a pair of openings arranged in different horizontal planes when the body portion is disposed in one position, said openings being arranged in the same horizontal plane when the body portion is rotated axially substant ally from said position, said neck portion extending at an upward inclination from the body portion when the latter is in said position and when rotated axially 90 therefrom in one direction.
2. A measuring bottle comprising, a body portion. a breast portion at one end of the ody portion. a neck portion extending from the breast portion. and a partition substantially at the line of joinder between the body and breast portions, said partition having a pair of openings arranged in different horizontal planes when the body portion is disosed in measuring position, said openings eing arranged in the same horizontal plane when thebodyportion is rotated axially substantially 90 to pre-pouring position, said neck portion extending at an upward inclination from the body portion when the latter is in both of said positions and when being rotated from measuring position to pro-pouring position, one of said openings being of and breast portions, said (partition having a pair of openings arrange in difierent horizontal planes when the body portion is disposed in one position, said openings being arranged in the same horizontal plane when the body portion is rotated axially substantially 90 from said position, said neck portion extending at an angle to the horizontal and vertical planes of the body portion when the latter is in the said position, said body portion being of elongated cross sectional shape said partition being of elongated shape to conform with the cross sectional shape of the bed portion, said openings being arranged ad acent one end of the partition.
4. A measurin bottle comprising, a body portion rectangu ar in cross section, a breast portion at one end of the body portion, a neck portion extending from the breast portion in angular relation to the longitudinal plane of the body portion and to the transverse planes through the major and minor dimensions thereof, and a partition substantially at the line of joinder between the body and breast portions, said partition having a pair of openings arranged in diiierent horizontal planes when the body portion is disposed in one position, said openings being arranged in the sanie horizontal plane when the body portion is rotated axially substantially 90 from said position, said breast and neck portions being calibrated, said body portion having a filler neck and cap.
5. A measuring bottle comprising, a body portion, abreast portion at one end of the body portion, a neck portion extending from the breast ortion, and a partition disposed substantial y at the line of joinder between the breast and neck portions, said partition having a pair of openings arranged in different horizontal planes when the body rtion is disposed in one position, one of sai openings being adjacent the top of the body portion and the other of said openings being adjacent the bottom of the body portion when the latter is in said position, said openings being arranged in the same horizontal plane adjacent the bottom of the body portion when the latter is rotated axially substantially 90 in one direction from the said position.
6. A measuring comprising, a body portion, a breast ortion at one end of the body portion, a nec portion extending from the breast portion, and a partition disposed substantially at the line of joinder between the breast and neck portions, said partition having a pair of openings arranged in difierent horizontal planes when the body portion is disposed in one position, one of said open ings being ad acent the top of the body portion and other of said 0 enings bein adjacent the bottom of the b0 y ortion w en the latter is in said position, said openings being arranged in the same horizontal plane adacent the bottom of the body portion when the latter is rotated axially substantially 90 in one direction from the said position, said neck portion extendin at an angle to the horizontal and vertica. planes of the body portion when the latter is in the said position and when the body portion is rotated axially 90 therefrom.
7. A measuring bottle comprising, a body portion, a breast portion at one end of the body portion, a neck portion extending from the breast portion, and a partition disposed substantially at the line of joinder between the breast and neck portions, said partition having a pair of openings arranged in different horizontal planes when the body portion is disposed in one position, one of said openings being adjacent the top of the body portion and the other of said openings being adjacent the bottom of the body portion when the latter is in said position, said openings being arranged in the same horizontal plane adjacent the bottom of the body portion when the latter is rotated axially substantially in one direction from the said position, one of said openings being of materially greater diameter than the other.
8. A measuring bottle comprising, a body portion, a breast portion at one end of the body portion, a neck portion extendin from the breast portion, and a partition disposed substantially at the line of joinder between the breast and neck portions, said partition having a pair of openings arranged in difierent horizontal planes when the body portion is disposed in one position, one of said openings being adjacent the top of the body portion and the other of said openings being adjacent the bottom of the body portion when the latter is in said position, said openings being arranged in the same horizontal plane adjacent the bottom of the body portion when the latter is rotated axially substantially 90 in one direction from the said position, said body portion being of elongated cross sectional shape, said partition being of elongated shape to conform with the cross sectional shape of the body portion, said openings being arranged adjacent one end of the partition.
