The invention has particular reference to the means whereby a closing head is formed on hollow pot-shaped rivets, i. e. tubular rivets closed at one end and fianged at the' other. It is an object of my invention to provide a .riveting tool of particular simplicity and efficiency. The tool according to this invention substantially consists in two or more resilient jaw-like members arranged opposite each other or in a circle, each member having the form of a resilient tongue and the tongues of the tool having a tendency to close upon each other, Each tongue may be provided on the inner side with a cam face, while on the outer side is formed a projection. In order to form a closing head the ends of the (1o-operating tongues are introduced into the hollow rivet, which is placed in position in the registering holes of the parts to be connected, and a wedge-like member is forced into position between the tongues so las to force them outwardly. whereby the projections formed on the tongues will act on the closed end of the rivet and will expand it to form the closing head. After y the wedge-like member has been withdrawn from between the tongues, they will owing to their resiliency return into their initial position, when they can readily be withdrawn from the rivet. By turning the tongues in the rivet after the first operation and repeatedly forcing the wedge in between them, the closing head can be perfected.
In the drawings affixed to this specification and forming part thereof. a tool embodying my invention is illustrated diagrammatically by Way of example.

Referring to the drawings, a and b are the work-pieces, for instance two pieces of sheet metal, and l is a hollow rivet inserted in registering holes formed in these pieces. 2 and 3 are two levers pivoted to each other at 4 and spread asunder by a spring 5. To lever 2 are attached resilient tongues 6 and 7 the free ends of which converge so that cam faces are formed on their inner sides, while proj ections 9, 10 are formed on the outer sides near the ends of the tongues. These projections are-of a size which permits the tongues in inoperative position to be introduced into and withdrawn from the rivet. Between the tongues 6 and 7 is slidably located a wedge 8, the lower end of which is rounded, while the upper end is hinged at 13 to the lever 3 in such manner, that in the position of the 1evers as shown in Fig. 5 the wedge 8 is in the inoperative position shown in Fig. 1. On the levers 2 and 3 being forced against each other wedge 8 is forced in the direction of the ends of the tongues 6 and 7 and in gliding on the inner cam faces of the tongues forces their free ends asunder. The projections 9 and 10 acting on the rivet wall from wit-hin expand it to form the closing head. On the levers 2 and 3 being released spring 5 will force them asunder so that wedge 8 is withdrawn from between the tongues 6 and 7 so that their ends can-move inwardly and the tool can be withdrawn from the rivet or turned in the rivet in order to repeat its operation. y
Instead of two tongues three or four may be provided which can all be acted upon by a single wedge.
I wish it to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described for obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
In the claim affixed to this specification no selection of any particular modification of the invention is intended to the exclusion of other modifications thereof and the right to subsequently make claim to any modification not covered by these claims is expressly reserved. f
Iclaim:
1. A tool for forming closing heads on hol- 5 low rivets comprising a pair of resilient touffues with convergin ends, projections on sai ends, and means or forcing said ends outwardly, said means being displaceable between said ton es towards, but barred from 10 `moving beyon said ends.
2. A tool for forming closin heads on hollow rivets comprising a pair o levers pivoted to each other, a air of resilient tongues kfixed to one of said evers, the free ends of said 15 tongues ooverging, projections on said ends, and a wedge-like member connected with said other lever and extending into the gap between said tongues.
