This invention, generally stated, relates to display devices and has more particular relation to a display device constructed of thin sheet material as cardboard for retaining for inspection purposes means symbolic of an article of manufacture.

The leading object of the present invention may be said to reside in the provision of a display device of thecharacter stated which may he supported in easel fashion or suspended for advertising purposes and which may be inexpensively manufactured.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a device of the characterstated constructed of cardboard and substantially cut-away centrally thereof for the acceptance of a member symbolic of an article of manufacture, which member is enveloped in. av transparent, film-like covering.

A still further object of the present invention is to provide a display device of the char acter stated comprising a cardboardlbacking suitably supported, which backing is centrally apertured to receive in nested relation a member of tray-like configuration enveloped in a. transparent, film-like covering in which the nested parts penetrate the apertured portion of the backing and are attached with respect to the rear of the backing.

A still further object'of the present invention is to provide a device of the character stated in which a cardboard backing is provided centrally apertured to receive nested parts depicting an article of manufacture, and in which the nested parts are secured with respect to the backing to provide a'unitary structure.

A still further object of the present invention resides in the provision of general details of construction, arrangement, and combination of parts for effecting the results sought by the foregoing objects.

The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and in which:

For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at present preferred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrum-entalities of which my invention consists can be variously ar-- ranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.

Referring to the drawings .in detail, the reference numeral 10 designates a thin, substantially fiat member, preferably of cardboard or other inexpensive material, which is substantially centrally apertured or cutaway entirely therethrough, as best seen in Fig. 2,. as at 11. Thispart 1O constitutes the body or backing of the display device, and is usually of inte ral structure. Fitted to the aperture 11 ofthe body or backing 10 is an arrangement of parts symbolic of an article of manufacture. This device is in two parts, having nested relation, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. These two parts comprise a substantially tray-like member 12 of cardboard and a transparent, film-like envelope 13,- usually cellophane; In forming the parts 12 and 13 Ima-ke use of a'cardboard blank 14, and a blank 1,5 of cellophane, see Fig. 5, it being understood that, the blank 15 is slightly larger than isQthe blank 14. In practice the blank of cellophane is positioned over the blank 14 of cardboard so that' the cellophane covering appears uponthe face of the body or backing 10. Both the blanks 14 and 1 5 are scored as at 17 and 16. The two blanks '14 and 15 are first folded along the'weakened lines 17 to provide a dished or tray like arrangement of parts, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. By thus folding the blank 14, flaps 18 are provided, which flaps are passed through the aperture 11 of the body or backing so that said flaps extend entirely through the body or backing. These flaps 18 are then folded back along the scored or weakened lines 16 in parallelism with the rear face of the body or backing 10, and are secured with respect to the body or backing preferably by means of an adhesive,

although other means of attachment may be provided. In the connection it will be understood that the marginal edges of the" cellophane covering lie between the rear face of the body or backing 11 and the inner faces of the flaps of member 12, and all of-the'se flaps are adhesiv-ely secured with respect to the rear face of tie body or backing. The tray-like member 12 upon its outer faces has depicted thereon suit-able advertising matter to symbolize an article of manufacture, as for instance a package of cigarettesor other commodity. The cellophane covering being transparent permits visualizing of the symbolized article of manufacture and makes for a very attractive display device. lhe body or backing is preferably supportedby an easel-like arrangement of parts comprising a cardboard or equivalent member stamped from a single blank and comprising a vertically disposed member 19 which has struck out therefrom at right angles thereto wings 20 arranged to be adhesively secured to the rear face of the body or backing 1O.w Inter- 'mediate of its height the member 19 is cutaway as at 21 so as to lie free of the folded over and secured flaps 18,as is best seen in What I claim is:" V

A display device of the character stated, comprising a cardboard member constituting a body having a substantially central cut away portion therethrough, a second member formed from a single blank of cardboard 5 having flaps arranged to be passed through said cut-away portion and having their free ends folded over upon the body back and secured thereto, said second member depicting an article of manufacture, and a thin, film- 13 'like'sheet entirely enveloping said depicted article of manufacture and having its martioned blank and entirely enveloping said depicted article of manufacture and having its marginal edges secured between said body and flaps.

A display device of the character stated, comprising a cardboard member constituting a body having a substantially central cutaway portion therethrough, a second member formed from a single blank of cardboard having flaps arranged to be passed through said cut-away portion and. having their free ends folded over upon the body back and secured thereto, said second member depicting an article of manufacture, and a thin filmlike sheet entirely enveloping said depicted article ofmanufacture and having itsmarginal edges secured between said body and flaps, the combined parts forming a unitary structure. 7

A display device of the character stated, comprising a cardboard member constituting a body having a substantially central cutaway portion therethrough, a secondmember formed from a single blank of cardboard having flaps arranged to be passed through said cut-away portion and having their free ends folded over upon the body back and secured thereto, said second member depicting an article of manufacture, and a thin film-like sheet entirely enveloping said depicted article of manufacture and having its marginal edges secured between said body and flaps, and means for supporting said body.

A display device ofthe character stated, comprising a cardboard member constituting a body having a substantially central cutaway portiontherethrough, a second member formed from a single blank of cardboard having flaps arranged to be passed through said cutaway portion and having their free ends folded over upon the body back and secured thereto, said second member depicting an article of manufacture, a thin film-like sheet entirely enveloping said depicted article of manufacture and having its marginal edges secured between said body and flaps, and a support for said body which support is cut-away adjacent that part thereof which fits over said flaps.
