Description

Dc. 29, 1931. w. J. DODD PRICE CARD HOLDER Filed March 19, 1931 l VENTOR W2I%ad&
ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 29, 1931 I r WILLIAM J. DQDD', ofi'MfAuri, oKnAHoMA PRICE oAmii 6mm i Application filed March 19, i 93LnSeria'1No. 523d365 My invention relates to improvements in price card holders, and 1t conslsts 1n the combinations, constructions and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide a I price card holder of very simple construction,
which can be manufactured cheaply and sold at a relatively low price.
Vide a device of the type described which will firmly grip a box, board, sheet or other sup port, but which dispenses with the use of springs. i r
A further object is to provide a device in card holdingmember, thus simplifying the device. 1
the gripping 'member is largely effected through gravity, as distinguished from a.
spring actuated gripping members. 7 7
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated. in the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, and in which: c
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my imof a container. V
Figure 2 is a longitudinal-section through the'device as applied to a container.
Figure 3 is a sectional viewalong the line .33 of Fig. 2, and,
Figure lis a sectional view showing the} device as applied to a container having thinner walls In carryingout my invention I make use; c e. V ,ath n wall 10. The upper edgejof this wall of two piecesof sheet metal. One'ofthese pieces has a central portion comprising a.- body 1 having a portion 2 bent angularly with respect thereto, and a flange 3 bent substanj 1 the body. portion 1. y

The A further object of the invention is tocprods of thisintegral portion are/curved rearj Theicornpanion member consists of a plate or' barj bent at its upper end to form a'bead 1a. apoint 7b near its lower end is bent Qan gularly ,ito; form a gripping portion. 70, which the gripping member also serves as a V which is substantially parallel with the flange 3 in any'position ofthe gripping portion. v jFrom the foregoing, description of the parts of the device the operation thereof may' be readily'understood.
JVhen it is desired, to secure the price card holder to a container, such asthe b02118 shown .i-n dotted lines in Fig.1, the flange 3is placed 7 o 1ver theedge of t'hebox, so that the portion 2;;is :broughtintocontact with theedge, and

'The holder is thuswheld securely,iregardless-'of the thick- -x ness' of the wal'lupon "which it is secured- 112100 may be instantly taken off, and as quickly applied, thus dispensing with springs whlle providing a positive gripping action.
As will be seen from Figure 3, the curved ends 6d and 66 of the extension 6 extend rearwardly of the front face of the slidable member 7, so that the card 9 when inserted between the extension and the gripping member is bent and held frictionally by the curved ends of the extension on one side, and by the face of the gripping member on the other.'
angularly disposed with respect to the plane of the flange, and a. gripping portion earned by said slidable member said gripping portion being parallel with the flange in any position of the slidable member.
WILLIAM J. DODD.
One purpose in curving the ends of the ex- 7 the flange, and a gripping portion carriedby said slidable gripping member for engaging the opposite face of the support, said gripping portion being parallel to the flange in any position of the slidable member.
2. A price card holder comprising a body portion having rearwardly bent ears and being provided with an angularly bent portion,
a flange integral with said angularly bent portion, a gripping member slidably disposed between the ears, the plane of the'gripping member being angularly disposed with respect to the plane of the flange, a gripping portion carried by said slidable member, said gripping portion being parallel with the flange, an extension carried by the body portion and being offset from the plane thereof, said extension having rearwardly curvedend portions, and being spaced from the gripping member, the space between the extension and the gripping member serving as a receptacle for a price card.
3. In a price card holder, a body portion, a. slidable gripping member carried by said body portion on the rear thereof, an extension to said body portion'offset from the plane thereof, and being provided with curved end portions, said extensions being spaced from said gripping member and the end portions extending rearwardly of the front face of the gripping member, whereby a card inserted between the extension and the grip ping member is held frictionally.
4. A price card holder comprising a body bent at an obtuse angle, a flange integral with said angularbent portion, a gripping member slidably carried by the body por-.
tion, the plane of the gripping member being portion and being provided with a portion
