employed for sealing vessels it has been found almost impossible to seal the bottles with tin foil coverings over the caps and bottle necks since the sharp ed es of the skirts of the caps project through tie foil causing it to tear. This is particularly noticeable on bottles used for containing drinks such as certain highv grades of ginger ale and alcoholic beverages.
Further, with the bottles vand caps now commonly used, persons frequently cut their hands on the rough edges of the caps in handling the bottles; it is therefore an object of my invention to provide a bottle and cap combination in virtue of which such objectionable features may wholly be eliminated.
Further, it is an object of the invention to provide a bottle and cap combination with a remover of the type disclosed in my application Serial No. 315,017 which is of such construction that a sealing coverin of tin foil or the like may be placed over t e opener or over the cap and opener, or a paper seal may be employed around the neck over the opener .if desired.
Further, in manufacturing bottles employing the recesses in the neck ring of the bottle in which the ends of my remover are held, it has been found that sometimes the lifting of the parison by the neck ring of the mold during the formation of the bottle causes distortion in the recesses in the mouth ring which sometimes interferes with proper sealing; it is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a bottle or other similar vessel with a second ring (called a neck ring) located adjacent to the mouth ring of the bottle by which second or neck'ring the parison may be held by the. neck ring of the mold, thereby taking off the strains from the mouth ring of the bottle which tend to cause distortionof the indented part of the mouth ring,
Further, it is an object to provide a bottle with a sealing ring beneath thebottom edge of the crown, which ring lies so close to the crown that it not only serves as a guard for can be prized off from t the sharp edges of the crown but also prevents the insertion of an implement between the crown .and the rin by which the crown lie bottle, thereby compelling the use of my crown remover; a further object is to provide such a sealing ring (neck ring) as above described which will also serve as a fulcrum or abutment for the edge of A the cap while the ca is being lifted by the remover, thereby faci itating the loosening of w the cap from the bottle.
Further, it is an object to provide a bottle or other crowned vessel having my cap remover, with an auxiliary or neck ring 10- cated below the mouth ring of the bottle, 5 which auxiliary ring has under-cut recesses for the reception of the remover legs, thus insuring the holding of the remover snugly against the bottle neck during capping of the bottles and also enabling the bottles to be 7 shipped from the glass factory with the removers attached if desired.
Other objects will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out hereinafter.
To the attainment of the aforesaid objects 7 and ends, the invention still further resides in the novel details of construction, combina tion and arrangement of parts, all ofwhich will be first fully described in the following detailed description, then be particularly so pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a. perspective view of a bottle with my invention applied, a tin foil sea],
being placed over the cap and neck.

In the drawings, in which like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all of the figures, 1 represents the vessel (a bottle being illustrated for purposes of illustration only) having the mouth ring2 which has a flush unbroken mouth surface 3 against which the cork insert 18 of the cap 16 may bear to effect anair-tight seal. The mouth ring 2 has its under edge 4 flat to serve as a holder for the crimps 17 of the skirt of the cap 16.
The mouth ring is also provided with a pair of indentations 78 spaced apart, these indentations being in the general form of an inverted L and having their adjacent surfaces under-cut as at 9 and '10, the indentations havin vertical parts 7 as shown.
Beneath t e mouth ring 2 is located a neck ring which has several functions; first, toact as a guard for the edge of the skirt 17 of the cap 16 and prevent one cutting on'es hand on the sharp edges of the cap; secondly, it functions as a means to prevent'the removal of the cap by any. other'instrument than the remover 13 provided with the bottle; thirdly, it serves as anauxiliary means for retaining the remover 13 in place on the bottle before the cap is applied.
The auxiliary or neck ring 5 has vertical slots 11 for the reception of the legs 14 of the remover 13, the hook ends 15 of which remover engage in the recesses 7 8, the vertical parts 7 of the recesses aligning with the grooves 11, the latter being undercut as at 12 similarly to the undercut 10 of the mouth ring.
As shown in Figure 1, the bottle and cap may have its neck covered with a sealing en-,
velope 19 of suitable foil, or as shown in Figure 2, a strap seal 20 may be placed around the neck of the bottle over the remover 13. The provision of the sealingenvelope or seal possesses the advantage with the present construction that the opener will be shielded from any obstacles which might tend to move it and in this manner displace the cap. The seal thus performs the important function of a guard effectively holding the opener against unintentional opening forces.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be noticed that the diameter of the ring 5 is not less than the outer diameter of the skirt 17 when crimped tight and is preferably ust a trifle greater in diameter, thus the diameter of the ring 5 and the diameter of thle crimped skirt 17 may besubstantially equa I t It is further to be noted thatwhen the cap has been crimped ti ht on the bottle the lower edge of the skirt 1 will rest practically in contact with the ring 5, the upper surface of which ring is made flat in order to enable the cap to lie against it.
' In order to remove the cap it is only necessary to lift up on the remover 13 which at once breaks the seal 20 or 19 as the case may be, and prize the cap from the bottle. In this operation the portion of the edge of the cap diametrically opposite the remover will rest on the ring 5 as a point of fulcrum, thus facilitating the rapid and easy removal of the cap by means of the remover provided therefor. (See Figs. 3 and 4.)
Other advantages of the invention will be clear to those skilled in the art.
While I have disclosed my invention in its specific embodiment as applied to a bottle it is evident that it may also be applied to vessels of other shapes.
, What I claim is:
'1. In combination, a vessel having a mouth ring adapted to receive a crimped cap provided with the usual skirt, a crimped cap fitted over said mouth ring, a cap remover having a portion housed within the confines of the cap, and a neck ring below said mouth ring providing a shoulder at its upper edge substantially in contact with the lower edge of the cap skirt when the cap is inoperative sealing position on the vessel.
2. In combination, a vessel having a mouth ring adapted to receive a crimped. cap provided with the usual skirt, a crimped cap fitted over said mouth ring, a cap remover having a portion housed within the confines of the cap, and a neck ring below said mouth ring providing a shoulder at its upper edge substantially in contact with the lower edge of the cap skirt when the cap is in operative sealing position on the vessel, said neck ring being of a diameter 'not less than that of the cap at the edge of the skirt.
3. In combination, a vessel having a mouth ring adapted to receive a crimped cap provided with the usual skirt, a crimped cap fitted over said mouth ring, a cap remover 'having a portion housed within the confines of the cap, and a neck ring below said mouth ring providing a shoulder at its upper edge substantially in contact with the lower edge of the cap skirt when the cap is'in operative sealing position on the vessel, said neck ring having a groove receiving a portion of the remover.
4. In combination, a vessel having a mouth ring adapted to receive a crimped cap, a crimped cap "fitted over the mouth ring and provided with the usual crimped skirt, a cap remover comprising a strip of resilient'material having a reverse bend and having its ends separated and housed within the confines of said cap, the remover being pendent along the side of the vessel neck, and a neck ring on said vessel providing a shoulder at I its upper edge substantially in contact with the lower edge of the cap skirt when the cap is in operative sealing position on the ves- ,ends separated and housed within the con fines of said cap, the remover being pendent along the side ofthe vessel neck, and a neck ring on said vessel providing'a shoulder at its upper edge substantially in contact with .the lower edge of the cap skirt when the cap [5 is in operative sealing position on the vessel,

6. In combination, -a vessel having a mouth ring adapted to receive a crimped cap, a crimped cap fitted over the mouth ring and provided with the usual crimped skirt, a cap remover comprising a strip of resilient material having a reverse bend and having its ends separated and housed within ,the confines of said cap, the remover being pendent along the side of the vessel neck, and a neck ring on said vessel providing a shoulder at its upperedge substantially in contact with the lower edge of the cap skirt when the cap is in operative sealing position on the vessel, said neck ring being of a diameter not less than the. cap, anda neck ring below said mouth ring providing a shoulder at its upper edge substantially in contact with the lower edge of the cap skirt when the cap is in operative sealing position on the vessel and a'seal overlying the projecting portion of the cap remover and holding it to the bottle neck against accidental displacement.
10. In combination with avessel having a mouth ring adapted to receive a skirted cap, said mouth ring having spaced indentations below the top edge of the vessel, a cap remover having an end held in said indenta tions within the confines of the cap when the cap'is applied to the vessel, and a neckring on said bottle beneath the mouth ring having a shoulder at its upper edge designed to engage the lower edge of the cap when in op-' erative sealing position on the vessel.
11. In combination with a vessel having a mouth ring adapted to receive a'skirted cap, said mouth ring having spaced indentations below-the top edge of the vessel, a cap remover having an end held in said indenta tions within the confines of the cap when the cap isapplied to the vessel, and a neck ring on said bottle beneath the mouth ring having a shoulder at its upper edge designed to engage'the lower edge of the cap when in operative sealing position on the vessel, said neck ring having grooves in the Wall thereof to that of the cap at the edge of its skirt and r v S being grooved to receive the pendent re-, mover.
