Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NELSON HOLMES, OF YPSILANTI, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN OILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,852, dated October 31, 1876; application filed J 11110 12, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NELSON HOLMES, of Ypsilanti, Washtenaw county, Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Oiler, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in the combination of an annular piston with a cylinder and a nozzle in such a way that the device may be applied to oil-cans, being attached to the screw-top, or it may be attached to a common cork or stopper, and used in connection with an ordinary bottle. In either case the oil is forced through the nozzle by depressing the piston.
Referring to the drawing, which is a vertical section, A is a cylinder, in which the annular piston B is placed. 0 is a nozzle, which is attached to the piston B, and passes through the head of the cylinder, and is provided with the collar a. A spring, b, rests upon a fillet in the lower end of the cylinder A, and presses against the under side of the piston B.
The cylinder A may be attached to the screw-cap of an ordinary oil-can, or it may be fixed in a cork or stopper and used in an ordinary bottle; or it may be secured by a screwcap, D, as in the drawing.
In any case the oil is e ected by depressing the piston, either by means of the sleeve just mentioned, or by pressing the nozzle by placing the fingers on the collar a. The spring b returns the piston to the upper end of the cylinder.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent An attachment for oil-cans, consisting of cylinder A, having spring b, resting on a fillet in its lower end, and a piston, B, having the collared nozzle 0 a, substantially as shown and described.
NELSON HOLMES. Witnesses:
FRANK J osLIN, J os. H. DAVIS.
