This invention relates to betting apparatus for closing the clnder notch tuyres of bla-st furnaces, and has for Aits object the provision of a novel form of supporting and operating mechanism'for such apparatus.

Due to the path of travel of the rods 18 and 19 caused by the tracks 16 and 17, the links "75 14 and 15 will be forced to swing.)r` about their pivotal mountingon the overhead plate 9 so as tol forma vertically movable pivot point for said connecting' rods.
` A guide bar 25 is arranged in parallel 80 spaced relation to the plate 9 and is secured thereto. The connecting rods 18 and 19 are passed upwardly through thespace between the bar 25 and plate 9 and are thereby limited in their movement in a. direction trans- S5 versely of the plate so as to prevent displacement of the rollers 20 and 21 from the tracks.
In order to move the betting bar out of the tuyre a crank-shaped lever 26 is pivotally mountedintermediate its ends as at 27, Yon the rearmost connecting rod 18, and a cable 28 has one end connected to the rearleg of lever 26 and its other end is trained upwardly over suitable sheaves and is secured to a winch 29; n TWhen it is desired to withdraw the botting bar the winch 29 will be operated to take up the cable 28. The winch will be easily operated until the slack is taken up in the cable 28 and the lever 26 is rocked about its mount- CII ing. Therefore, considerable speed may be developed by the winch. he pull on the lever 26 as the slack is taken out of the cable 28 will cause said lever to rock about its pivotal mounting and strike the rearmost connectinqV rod so as to jar the botting bar and loosen said bar it it is stuck in the tuyre.
When it is desired to insert the betting bar after it has been withdrawn from the tuyere the winch Q9 is released and the bar descends into the tuyre by'gravity.
1t will be understood that l do not wish to be limited tothe use of the winch 29 for operating the cable 28 since various mechanisms may be substituted therefor.
Vhile l have shown and described one specilic embodiment oic my invention l do not wish to be limited thereto since. .farious modifications may be made without depart ing from the scope of my invention, as delinedin the appended claims.

The combination with cinder notch tuyre, oi a betting bar adapted to close said t'uyere, an overhead support, a pair of horizontally spaced and parallel links pivotally mounted in the same vertical plane on said support, a pair of curved guide tracks on said support, a pair of connecting rods having their upper ends pivotally connected to the free ends oi respective ones of said links and having their lower' ends pivot-ally connected to said betting bar at horizontally spaced points, guide-rollers on said connecting rods and mounted to travel on said tracks, said rollers being so positioned vertically on said rods as to maintain said links in an upwardly and rearwardly linclined position, and said tracks being curved so as to guide said connecting rods through a path when swung to and 'from said einde-r notch tuyere as will maintain said bar in a horizontal position, said links moving about their pivotal. mounting on said overhead support assaid connect ing rods are moved toward and away from said tuyere and thereby forming a'vertically movable pivot point for said connecting rods, means for limiting the movement of said connecting rods in a: direction transversely of said tracks to thereby prevent displacement ot said rollers from said tracks, means connected to the rearmost one o1c said connecting rods for pulling said betting bar rearwardly, and means operated by said pulling means for striking a blow against said rearmost connecting rod at the beginning oi the pulling action. i

The combination with a cinder notch tuyre, of abetting bar adapted to close said tuyre, an overhead support, a pair of hori- Zontally spaced and parallel links pivotally mounted in the same vertical plane on said support, a pair of curved guide tracks on said support, al pair of connecting rods having their upper VendsV pivotally connected to the free ends of respective ones of said links and having their lower ends pivotally connected to said botting bar at horizontally spaced points, guide-rollers on said connecting rods and mounted to travel on said tracks, said rollers being so positioned vertically on said rods as to maintain said links in an upward ly and rearwardly inclined position, and said tracks being curved so as to guide said connecting rods through a path when swung to and from said cinder notchA tuyre as will maintain said bar in a horizontal position, said links moving about their pivotal mounting on said overhead support as said connecting rods are moved toward and away from said tuyre and thereby forming a vertically movable pivot point forv said connecting rods, means for limiting the movement of said connecting' rods in a direction transversely of said tracks to thereby prevent displacement of said-rollers from said tracks, a crank-shaped striking lever pivotally mounted on the rearmost one of said connecting rods, a drum, a flexible member connected to said drum and said striking lever adapted to be vrapped on said drum to movesaid botting bar from said tuyere and to be unwrapped from said drum to permit said botting bar to'move by gravity into said tuyre, said lleaible member being adapted to rock said striking lever when said flexible member is wrapped on said drum so as to cause said lever to strike said bar and jar said betting bar to loosen it from said tuyre.

In a betting bar structure an overhead support, a pair of connecting rods depending Jfrom said support, al botting bar connected to said rods, a crank-shaped striking lever pivotally mounted on one of said connecting rods, a flexible member connected to said striking lever and adapted to be taken up to move said .betting bar out O'cperative position and to be slackened to permit said botting bar to move by gravity into operative positioinsaid flexible member being adapted to rock said striking lever when said flexible member is taken up so as to cause said lever to strike said bar and jar said bot-ting bar.
