The present invention relates to hinges or hinging inea-ns and has for' one of its ob- ]ectsto provide a novel hinge construction embodying aroller bearing and an adjust@v g ment therefor.-

. As shown in Figures 2 and 3, one member or part of the hinge comprises a bracket plate v 13 adapted to be secured vertically against the outer side lof the wall 10 by bolts 14 orthe y like. The bracket plate 13 is provided with upper and lower lugs 15 in vertically spaced apart relation, and these lugs project out,- wardlyfrom the plate and areprovidedwith threaded axially aligned apertures 16 adjustably receiving therethru threaded studs `17 which Yare preferably kerfed in their outer ends for the reception of the bit ofa screw driver or the like for turning thestuds 17- and adjusting their inner ends toward and from each other. Set screws 18 may also be provided in the-lugs 15, threaded through the wall of the latter and adapted to bind against the studs 17 after the same have been adjusted for locking the latter in'adjusted position. j,
The other part or member of the hinge comadvantage in Figure 2. ,The strap ,19 extends sa prises a strap 19 adapted to be secured to the adjacent portionof the door'11,`a`s shown tof over the Outer side of the wall 10 to the bracket plate 13 and is provided thereat with a knuckle 20. i Y Y i The knuckle 20 is of any suitable configuration and fits loosely between the lugs 15 and is adapted to be supported therebetween'and to be shifted vertically betweenrthe lugs to ei'foct a relative adjustment between the bracket plate 13 andthe strap 19.` Y Y At each end, the knuckle 20 is enlarged'and liollowed out to provide bearing cups 21, and the studs 17 are provided with projections or roo reduced inner ends adapted to project into the cups 2l to support the bearing members.r The bearing members comprise an outer race 22 which is seated in the cup 21 and in which Vtravel the taper rollers 28. The adjacent stud 17 carries upon its reduced end an inner race 24, which,` by adjustment of the lug 17, bears Iagainst the rollers 23 and thus supports the adjacent end of the knuckle'20. j
.Suitable means for lubricating the bearingsV Y is provided, the same comprisingA lubricating suitable ports or the like so as to supply a suitable grease or oil to the chambers 25 and to. admit of the packing of the lubricant therein.
i K It will be noted that the bearing members are of tapering construction and that they taper inwardly towards each other so as to serve as both radial and thrust bearings r.for supporting the knuckle 2O and the parts connected `thereto against endwise displacement, and to take'up the weight of the door or the like through the knuckle 20, the bearing members, the .stud 17 and the lug l5 to the bracket plate 13, It will also be readily appreciated that the knuckle 20`may be shifted vertically between the lugs l5 by the relative adjustments 'of the studs 17 so that when the hinges are in pairs the weight of the door or other device suspended from the hinge, may be equalized between the upper and lower hinges so that the entire weight and strain will not be imposed upon but one .of the hinges. ther, by adjusting the hinges it is readily seen that thefdoor may be correctly aligned with a second door, or a door section, or may be adjusted to provide for the necessary clearance atv the upper or lower edges ofthe door. While the hinges are capable of fine adjustment,=at the same time they may be constructed.v` relatively large so as to withstand considerable weight and. abuse incident to the mounting of the knuckle 20 at opposite ends between thetapered bearing members. In the Y modification shown in Figure l the structure ofthe hinge. is the same as tha-t shown in Figure 3, with the exception that the attaching bracket or strapsA 27 and 28A are offdil'erent shapetof'adapt the hinge to the door sectionsv 1l and l2. In the modilication shown in Figures l and 5 one of the straps, such as the strap 27,` carries: the lugs 15 while the strap 28' is provided with the vknuckles 29 and the otherparts as shown in Figure 3 to completeV the hinge structure.
