Description

Nov. 24, 1931. J. EINFALT v SHEET METAL TOY SHIP HULL Filed Feb. 26, 1931 Hnvenlnr:
Patented Nov. 24, 1931 UNITED STATES JOHANN EINFALT, OF NUREMBERG, GERMANY SHEET METAL TOY SHIP HULL Application filed February 26, 1931, Serial No. 518,467, and in Germany July 25, 1930.
It is already known to watertightly connect the seams of two hull halves by folding or soldering. It is also known, to make the hull of a toy ship from one piece of sheet metal. Neither of these methods of producing hulls however enables a sharp pointed stem to be produced.
This invention relates to a method of producing a sheet metal ships hull, bent from one piece of sheet metal, in which the stem tapers to a point and is bent watertightly together.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the method of producing a ships hull.
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a sheet metal blank.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of a blank, in which the stem is partly folded in.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of Fig. 12.
Fig. 4 shows in top plan view the hull completely drawn.
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of Fig. 4c.
The blank composed of the bottom a and of the side walls 6 of the hull is cut as shown in Fig. 1, the stem portion 0 being preferably in the form of a quadrangle with unequal sides.
In the second operation, Figs 2 and 3, the quadrangle c is bent upwards by a die d. The die cl is also of quadrangular shape.- so that at the middle at f a fold is formed. The side walls 6 are also bent upwards at the front end at this operation.
In the third operation the hull is placed in a patrix and drawn to any desired shape by means of a matrix. During this operation the bent up quandrangle is completely drawn in so that the shape shown in Figs 4 and 5 is produced.
The hull drawn according to this operation has a pointed shape at the stem and is watertightly joined.
The deck is then put on in tion and holds the folded gether.
As shown in Fig. 5 the quadrangle is bent upwards so that water cannot penetrate into the hull.
If desired a metal strip may be used for a fourth operpportion tightly tobetter holding together the two hull parts.
I claim A method of producing a sheet metal toy ships hull, consisting in stamping a sheet metal blank comprising a bottom, side parts and in watertightly connecting both side parts of the hull.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
J OHANN EINFALT.
