Mounted on the axle 15 at the opposite end of the roller 13 is a ratchet Wheel 42 tixedly connected to the axle. and loosely mounted on the axle neat to the ratchet Wheel is a relatively larslje belt pulley 43. having' a pawl 44 pivoted. as at 4F. to the side ot the pulley. which is held in engagement with the ratchet Wheel by the leaf springN 46 att-ached to the side of the pulley, as at 47. The axle 14 ot' the roller 12 has a relatively small belt pulley 48 loosely mounted thereon adjacent one end ot' the roller in vertical alinement With the belt pulley 43 and an endless belt 49 is trained over the pulleys establishing` connection between the two rollers. Disposed between the pulley 48 and end of the roller 12 is a friction drive disk 50 which is attached to the end of the roller. rEhe disk 50 is held in frictional Contact with the pulley 48, by means of the coil spring' 51 mounted on the opposite end ot the axle 7.4. which is seated in the enlarged end ot the roller bore and exerts a longitudinal pressure on the roller. The end ot the axle adjacent the pulley 43eitends beyond the sid e wall ot the c.v in' and has a thumb Wheel attached thereto. Wherebv the roller l may be readily turned to quickly aline the i'iames on the web .vith the window.
1n operation. it will be seen that upon reciprocation ol the rack liar 28, the Wheel 24 is rotated. turning' tl e roller 1.3., the di,- rection ot rotation of the roller depending' on which tooth` ot the reversible pawl 02 is engaged with the teeth of the Wheel 24. Vfhen the roller is rotated in the direction to Wind the web 17 thereon, the pulley 43 remains stationary, as the pawl 44 rides over the teeth ot the ratchet Wheel. When the roller is rotated in the reverse direction the pavv'l enga:t s the teeth ot the ratchet Wheel 42. causingl the pulley 43 to turn therewith and the power ol' the pulley 43 is transmitted to the pulley by the belt 4S and the pulley 48 turns the roller 12 by reason ot its frictional en LMoment with the friction disk 50. windings; Upon each the web thereon. full stroke of the rack bar the web is moved a pre-deternxined distance so to infine' the names inscribed on the Web successively in alinement with the vrin don7 22 through Which they are diplayed. rl`he direction ot movement ot the Web is readily reversed by turning' the thumb wheel 40. which trips the paxvl 32 reversing` the rotation ot the roller 13. Should the names on the web ret out oi alinement with the Window. the web may be readily adjusted by turning the thumb Wheel 53. which rotates the roller 13. V'Vhile the raclr bar as shown is manually actuated. it is apparent that the same may be actuated by an electric motor if so desired.
lt is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that certain chanejes in the shape, size and arrangement of the parts mav be made Without departing from the spirit ot the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
rlaving thus described my invention, I claim 1. In an indicator of the class described. a pair ot rollers mounted for rotation. a web havini; its ends connected. to said rollers. a toothed Wheel 'lixedly mounted on the shaft ot one ot said rollers. a sector `(rear loosely mounted on the shaft ot said roller. a reversible pawl pivotally connected to the side ot said sector adapted to establish connection between said sector rear and toothed wheel. a casing); for the rollers haviimv an arcuate slot, a pin pivotallv carried by the sector ,Q'ear and pro'iectine' through the slot. the outer end ot the pin beine; provided with an operating; knob7 cooperating means between the pin and the pavvl for reversing the pawl, and a rack bar suspended from tbe sector tor actuating the latter. said slot and pin limitino; the movement ot the sector gear whereby to prevent displacement of the rack bar from the casing.

a reversible pawl pivotally connected to the side of said sector gear adapted to establish connection between said sector gear and toothed wheel, a pin pivotally carried by the sector gear projecting through the slot of the casing and having an operating knob on its outer end, cooperating means between the pin and the pawl for reversing the pawl, a reciprocating rack bar depending through l an opening in the casing and adapted to mesh with said sector gear to actuate the same, said pin and slot limiting the movement of the sector gear whereby to prevent displacement of the rack bar, a pulley loosely mounted on the 3 shafts of said rollers, an endless belt trained over said pulleys` and clutches for establishing connection between said pulleys and rollers.
