Description
Nov. 10, 1931. G. J. R. THAMM VACUUM CLEANER ATTACHMENT Filed OCT.. 24. 1928 /f/ Carbonne/1J Patented Nov. 10, 1931 PATENT OFFICE GUSTAV J. R. THAMM, F NEW YORK, N. Y.
VACUUM CLEANER ATTACHMENT Application led October 24, 1928. Serial No. 314,727.
The invention relates to attachments to be removably'fitted to the flexible tube of vacuum cleaning machinery, and provides a brush tipped nozzle designed most especially for tufted upholstery to enable the creases,
' folds and depressions to be reached.
The nozzle is formed with a attened end and curved tip in which is provided the opening through which the dust laden air is drawn lo when the device is in action. Plates are adapted to be interchangeably fitted to the flattened sides of the nozzle and are provided With brush material. The outer marginal edges of the plates are preferably channeled for strength and reception of the bristles or other material forming the brush.
The invention will be described more fully hereinafter, and corresponding parts are referred to in the specification and designated zo in the several views of the accompanying drawings by like reference characters.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side View of a vacuum cleaner nozzle embodying the invention a portion being broken away.
Figure 2 is a detail sectional View on the lin-e 2-2 of Figure 1 looking in the direction indicated by the arrows.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 3 3 of.Figure 2.
The numeral '1 denotes the nozzle and 2 the usual flexible tube of a vacuum cleaner. In accordance with the present invention the eX- tremity of the suction end of the nozzle is curved and formed with an opening 3. The receiving end of the nozzleis flat.,4 A plate 4 is tted against each side of the flattened end and is coeXtensive therewith.
Screws 5 or like fastening means secure the 40 plates f1 to the sides of the flattened end of the nozzle. It is observed that the plates 4 may be fitted to either side since one is the counterpart of the other. The outer marginal portion of each of the plates 4 is pressed outwardly, as indicated at 6, to form a channel which reinforces the plates and provides convenient means for the attachment of brush material 7 to the plates.
The brush material 7 may consist of brisci) tles which may be attached to the plates in any manner practiced in the art. The arrangement results in the provision of a brush which projects beyond the sides andedges of the flattened end and worn brushes may be v readily replaced at a nominal cost. The attachment is designed chiefly for upholstered furniture, as it enables the creases, folds and crevices to be easily reached for removal of the dust, lint and other accumulation.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
A vacuum cleaner nozzle havin flattenedY I affix m THAMlli signature.
