Description
G. FUNK.
SEWING-MACHINES.
latented Oct. 10. 1876.
A JAMES FLOSGOOD 3* CO ECSTC-N I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
GUSTAV FUNK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEWING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 183,050, dated October 10, 1876; application filed April 22, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GUSTAV FUNK, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sewing-Machines, of which the following is a specification My invention relates to that class of sewing-machines in which two needles are used to sew two parallel rows of stitches at one and the same operation; and it consists in providing the cloth plate or slide with two ribs converging toward the needles, each rib being in line with a needle, so that the cloth, leather,
or other material to be sewed will be directed needle-arm O is attached a device which will carry two needles, and between said needles the pressure foot D operates, underneath which is an ordinary feeding device. In front of said pressure-foot and needles is the clothplate E, constructed in the usual manner, with the exception that upon its upper surface are two ribs, R R, converging toward the needles, one rib in line with one needle and the other rib in line with the other needle, with their distances apart increasing the greater distance from the needles.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, substantially as described, of a cloth plate or slide, provided with two ribs, with the two needles and feed mechanism of a sewing-machine, as and for the purpose set forth.
This specification signed this 3d day of April, 1876.
GUSTAV FUNK.
