This invention relates to paper spools, and
has for an object to provide an.,improved construction wherein a comparatively strong structure is reduced at a minimum expense.

butit will be understood that these members and the other parts may be made of any desired thickness and size without departing from the spirit ofthe invention.
The barrel 1 is preferably a complete tube and the ends 2 and 3 are separate discs held to the tube by a hollow rivet 4 which is associated with reinforcing and connecting sleeve 5. The sleeve 5 is formed from a section of paper tubing and is bent into substantially the shape shown in Figure 1. This may be done by any well known means,-and after it has been bent it is inserted as shown in Figure 1.
Before the insertion of sleeve 5 the interior of the barrel 1 is provided with a layer of glue 6 at each end, and then the tubular members 5 are inserted to substantially the position shown in Figure 1.
Preferably in assembling the parts the sleeve 5 is first riveted to the end 2 or the and 3, as the case may be, and then the interior of the ends of the barrel supplied with glue or other adhesive. After this has been done sleeve 5 with its end is slipped into position as shown in Figure 1.
Both ends may be placed in sition at the same time, but preferably on y one end at a time is inserted, and after it has been slipped into osition the barrel l'is set in vertical position with the end down, whereby the adhesive that has been pushed inwardly when sleeve 5 has been inserted will gradually gather and form a-lump 7. This been inserted and the glue dried, the other end is inserted and allowed to become dry.
After the spool has been thus completed it is read for use. and by reason of the sleeve 5 the en s are strongly reinforced and consequently the spool as a whole is extra stron Preferably all parts are made of paper wit the exception of the rivet 4 and the Inc 6.
In Figure 3 a modified form 0 the invention is shown, where all the parts are similar to that shown in Figure 1 exce t the sleeve 5' which is in the shape of a b diametrically opposite ends cut off, end 8 presenting a larger opening, while end 9 is clamped by the rivet 4C This method of forming the sleeve 5 is such that the aper tube used may be more quickly (presse into sha e and just as easily inserte n this form of sleeve there are no sharp turns'and consequently none of the fibre of the sleeve is broken, which might be the case in sleeve 5 with the first structure unless some care was used in the formation of the sleeve. However, if this takes place it will not affect the usefulness of the spool as there is ample material to act as a connecting member and also as a brace.
