This invention relates to an alarm device and more particularly to a device designed to be mounted upon a door or window frame and so constructed as to contain a blank cartridge and including, in its structure, a firing pin and means for actuating the firing pin to fire a cartridge in the event the door or window, in vice is employed, is moved to open position, although the invention isnot limited to this use as the device is so constructed that it may be employed upon automobiles or in flower gardens or melon patches, or even carrled in ones pocket and manually actuated. to fire the blank cartridge and thus simulate a revolver and, in all probability, frustrate an attempted hold-up.

' The device embodying the invention comprises a cylindrical barrel 1 which may be made of any metal found suitable for'the purpose and which. is formed: with a bore 2 enlarged for. a portion of its length'as indicated bythe numeral 3' so as to provide an annular shoulder, l'to'constitute a seat'for the'rim 5j'of ablank'cartridge' 6. 7 Likewise the enlarged portion 3 of-the' bore 2 accommodat es one. end of a 'metallic tube 7 which is fittedfat its said end frictional'ly and snugly in the enlarged end of the bore 2 of the barrel 1 so that'this end of the tube will engage againstqthe rim-5 of the cartridge and thus hold the cartridge firmly in place.
Y The tube 7 is closed at its outer end as indicated b the numeral 8 and formed with alongitudinal slot 9 and a firing pin 10 which is also ofmetal, is slidably mounted in the tube-and'pro'vided with a tapered or conical point 11 designed to strike the cap of'the. cartridge 6 when the firing pin is forced longitudinally in the tube.
[A compression spring 12 is provided as a means for forcibly projecting the firing pin 1O and this springis arranged within the outer or closed end of the tube 7 and be ars at one end against'the closedend 8 of said tube and at its other end against the inner endof the firing pin 10.
In order that the firing pin lO may be held in retracted position 'in the slot 9.Land the spring-12 held under'tensiomunder normal conditions, a stud 13'is formedupon or fixed to the inner orbutt end of the firing pin 10 and extends through the slot 9 and is provided with ahead 14 by means of which the firing pinfl maybe slida-bly adjusted in "the tube and the spring12 tensioned. The slot 9 is formed at its end which" isf adjacent the closed end of the tube, with two lateral branches 15 and, as shown in Figures 2 and 4 of the drawing, the stud may be grasped by its head 14 and swung so as to rotate the firing pin and bring the stud into engagement with either branch of the slot 9. At this point it will beevident that when the stud 13 is displaced from engagement in either branch of the slot 9 and brought into alinement with the slot and released, the spring 12 will act automatically to impel the firing pin 10 forwardly thereby causing its point 11 to strike the cap of the blank cartridge and fire the cartridge.
7 At this point it will also be evident that, if the device is to be merely carried in ones pocket, the stud 13 may be actuated by finger. pressure, alone. However, the invention conhaving a passageway substantially of the same diameter as the bore and adapted to aline with the bore of the barrel when inserted therein, said tube having an angle slot, a pin slidably mounted in the tube, said pin bem substantially of the same diameter as the bore, a spring interposed between the outer end of the pin and the outer end of the tube and a stud mounted upon the pin and disposed through said slot.

is tied at one end as at 24, to the stud 13 and V tied at its other end as at 25 to a pin or the like, indicated by the numeral 26, which may be pressed by ones thumb or driven into the face of the door 22 and, it willbe evident, from the foregoing that when the door is opened, a pull will be exerted upon the member :23 resulting in the stud 13 being swung and brought into alinement with the slot 19 thereby permitting the spring 12 to act to impel the firing pin 10 into firing contact with the cap of the blank cartridge.

An alarm comprising a barrel having a bore leading in from one end and a counterbore leading in from the opposite end said bores being concentric and the counter-bore being of greater diameter than the bore whereby a shoulder is provided interiorly of the barrel at the inner ends of the bores,
