Description

Oct. 27, 1931. A. ARCHANGELSKY ET AL CON TACT DEVICE FOR MOVABLE ELECTRIC APPARATUS Filed June 4, 1928 //7 yen for.
Patented Oct. 27, 1931 PATENT OFFICE ALEXANDER ARCHANGELSKY AND RUDOLF GOLDBERG, OF BERLIN, GERMANY CONTACT DEVICE FOR MOVABLE ELECTRICAL APPARATUS Application filed June 4, 1928, Serial No. 282,807, and in Germany December 4, 1926.
The invention relates to movable electric apparatus fed with electric current by cables, which at once may serve for supporting the apparatus, such as for instance boring machines of dentists or in work shops, telephones, radio head phones, lamps and many other devices.
The essential feature consists therein, that in the current feeding cable one of the electric conductors is not isolated over a certain length and adapted to come in contact with a roller or similar contact part connected to the current source, whereas the other conductor or conductors may be directly connected to the current source. In this way the pulling near or ulling down of the apparatus to the wor in place causes the current automatically to be introduced and to flow as long as the apparatus is not pushed away, so that without handling any special contact the apparatus works when in working position and is streamless when in resting position. Thereby great reliability is attained, and many inconveniencies resulting from forgetting a switch is avoided.
The invention further concerns several details which will appear from the following description.
In the drawing the invention is illustrated by a mikrotelephone suspended on its current feeding cable.
A supporting roller 1, arranged on an overhead art of a room consists of insulating material and has a metal rim 1'. A current brush 2, connected to one pole of a current source, which in this case is the telephone line. To the second pole of the current source an insulated cable conductor 3 is immediately attached, which runs over a. loose roller 4 weighted by a weight 5 (or a spring) and over the first roller 1, 1 leads to the apparatus to be connected, which is shown as a mikrotelephone 6 consisting of a mikrophone and a telephone. A second not insulated flexible conductor 7 is fastened to an insulating piece 7 and this is fastened as well as the first conductor 3 to a ceiling 8 or other fastening point. The said second conductor 7 runs equally as the first conductor over the rollers 1, 1 and 4 to the mikrotelephone 6. It has an insulated part 7 running over the contact roller 1, 1, and in the last part 9 both conductors 3 and 7 are twisted in usual man ner. A stop 10 serves as abutment for the re turn movement of the cable caused by the weight 5.
In the shown resting position no current flows, as the conductor 7 rests on the contact roller 1, 1 with its insulated part 7". If the mikrotelephone 6 is pulled down or aside, so that the not insulated cable 7 contacts the roller 1, 1, the current circuit is closed and the apparatus is in working positions.
Calling and line selecting conductors may be united in usual manner with the conductor 3, so that the mikrotelephone 6 can be of ordinary construction. A line selector can also be incorporated in the mikrotelephone, whereas the other accessories are assembled in usual manner in a casing fastened to a room wall and connected to the cable 3 and the current brush 2.
In case of using the device for boring machines and similar devices driven by strong currents the brush 2 is connected to the zero or ground conductor, and the cable conductor or conductors 3 to the other line conductor or conductors of the constant or alternating or triphase current circuit.
We claim:
A contact device for movable electric apparatus, comprising in combination a current conductor insulated throughout and being in conductive relation by its ends to one side of an electric source of energy and to one pole of the movable apparatus respectively, a second current conductor uninsulated throughout a part of its length but having a part thereof covered with insulation and being secured at one end to a support and at the other end to the other pole of the movable apparatus, a stationary roller having a conducting circumference supporting said second conductor andbeing connected conducti'vely to the other side of the source of energy, a Weight applied to said second conductor for drawing its insulated portion onto said roller, and a stop on said second conductor for holding it in this position, so that a pull on the apparatus will move the last named insulated portion off said roller and complete a circuit by bringing the uninsulated portion of the second conductor onto said roller.
In witness whereof We aflix our signatures.
ALEXANDER ARCHANGELSKY.
