SEESAW TOY Filed Feb. s, 1951 Patented oct. L2o, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WILHELM DAVID, F VHAMBURG,l GERMANY, ASSIGNOR T0 E. P. LEHMANN, 0F
BRANDENBUBG-ON-TBE-HAVEL, GERMANY Y SEESAW TOY Application med #February 3', 1931, serial No. 513,162, and inem-many February 5, 1930.
' The invention relates to a toy forming aseesaw. In toys of this class it' is known to produce the seesaw motions by means of dropping sand or-balls. Now according to 5 the present invention the motion of the seesaw beam is obtained by the fact that each of the two arms of thebeam is hingedly opnnected to a member having several superposed steps, which two nmembers cooperate in such a manner that a ball dropping thereonto alternatively drops from the step of the one member onto the following step ofthe other member. Y
From the last step the balls drop onto`a lever which b means of a thrust rod feeds new balls to t e stepped path.l
In order that the invention may be more readily understood, an embodiment of the y same is illustrated by Way of example which 2Q forms a seesaw fitted with the actuating device according tothe invention; the invention may however serve to produce an other seesawing motion with toys of any ind.
' The beam a of the seesaw on the ends of whichv are fixed dolls or the like, is fulcrumed at c on the frame d of the to On each side of the f ulcrum c is pivote on the beam a ladder-like members el and e2, respectively, which members are interconnected by an upd '-20 per link-f ulcrumed at f1 on the frame d.
i As will be seen the steps g of the ladders el, e2 are staggered relatively to one another. Above 'the ladders is provided a feeding trough L for the balls z'. Two balls are fed at the beginning of the actuation, the first ball abuttin on astop la.- This first ball rests on a hole t rough which mayo project a thrust rod Z pivoted at Z1 on a leverfm f The described toy operates as follows: 40
over the stop k, it dro alternatively from a step g of the one lad eeento the next step of ladder e, whereby the left-hand and righthand arm of the beamv a is lowered alternatively so that acontinuous seesaw motion of the beam a is obtained. I
Asv soon as the ball drops from the last step onto the lever m, the latter is depressed androd l ushes the-next ball over the sto k, so that t eseesaw is now held in motion this As soon as the first ball i has been pushedother ball. If 'always two balls are presentA behind the stop 1c, the beam executes an uninterrupted seesawing motion.'
What I claim as my invention is i 1. Aftoy comprising a frame, a seesaw ulcrumed thereon, a member pivoted on each 'feeding single balls to said path.
y2. A toy comprising a frame, a seesaw fulcrumed thereon, a member pivoted on each of an the two arms of said :seesaw, said two membersbeing hingedly interconnected and havingv steps staggered with relation to one another and adapted to form a path between them for a ball adapted to alternatively 'depressfsaid "G stepped members, a trough for said balls on the top of said path.' and means for feeding a new ball from said trough when a preceding ball has left said path. l
3. A toy comprising aframe, a seesaw ful- 75 crumed thereon, a member pivoted on each of the twoarms of said seesaw, saidtwo members being hingedly interconnected and having steps sta gered with relation to one another and a apted to form a path between -them for a ball adapted to alternatively depress said stepped members, a trough for said balls on the-top of said path, a lever pivoted on said 'frame and adapted to be depressed by a ball leaving said ath, a thrust rod 85 hingedly connected to sai lever and adapted to feed a new ball from said trough to said path whensaid lever is de ressed.
In testimony whereof I ave aixed my signature. Y
" WILHELM DAVID.
