This invention pertains'to new and novel improvements in rail anchors formed from two pieces ofhighgrade spring steel especially designed to be fixedly secured to l 15 the base portion of a railway track rail, and in engagement with stationary parts of the railway road bed for the purpose of prevent-- ing longitudinal displacement of the track rails during thetravel of the rolling stock thereover;
The prime object of theinvention is to provide a simple, novel, durable, practical, economical and thoroughly efiicient rail an- I chor of the desired and required dimensions possessing the requisite strength, which may be readily applied to'the base portion of a track rail and securely maintained in its proper operative position thereon, and which will always efiectively grip and clamp the rail base and cooperate with a stationary part ofthe railway road bed to prevent any creeping action ofthe track rail.
Another object of the invention is to so construct my improved two piece rail anchoring device that it will always maintain the required resiliency and tension and exert an extremely tight gripping, clamping and effective frictional engagement with the track rail under any and all conditions of service, and the greater the twisting strain to which the anchor may be subjected the more intense gripping power is imparted thereto.
The foregoing and such other objects as may appear from the ensuing description are accomplished by the construction, formation, locationamd combination of the several parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated by the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the claimsappended hereto, it being understood that slight changes in the precise form, proportions and minor details ofthe construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or-sacrificingany of the advantages of the invention. Figure 3 is a similar plan showing the position assumed by the locking clip or key when first passed through the opening formed through one end portion of the main anchor member.

In the embodiment of the invention as illustrated it will be seen that the numeral 1 indicates a railway track rail, and 2 an underlying cross-tie forming a stationary part 76 of the railway road bed and supporting the rail 1, the said rail having a tendency to creep or move longitudinally, when subjected to the intense strain caused by the travel of the rolling stock thereover.
The letter A designates the main anchoring member which may be formed from any suitable or desirable metal, but is preferably formed from a single bar of high grade steel of the required dimensions, the operation of 86 forming the said member being performed by drop forging or stamping the bar with a downwardly extended or depending U- shaped centrally disposed portion 3, having a flattened portion 4 extending from each 90 side of the upper end of said portion 3, the upper face of each flattened portion 4 being adapted to contact with the lower face of the track rail, while one end portion of the member is suitably bent upwardly and inwardly to form the upper portion of the jaw member 5 that is adapted to, overlap and tightly clamp against the upper inclined face of the base portion of said track rail, and the other end portion of said member 1 after described; I

A railway rail anchor comprising two members, one of said members bein formed from a plate of suitable metal having a depending resilient central portion with an overlapping jaw formed at one end and an oblong opening formed therethrough at its opposite end portion, and a fastening clip passed through said openin and driven upon the inclined upper face 0% the base of said rail with the upper and lower portions of said clip under high tension and locked in contact with the rail base and said member respectively.

A two-piece railway rail anchor comprising a member formed from a suitable plate of metal having a depending central portain and an overlapping jaw at one end and an oblong opening formed therethrough at its other end portion, a fastening clip passed through said opening adapted to clamp the upper face of the rail and the lower face of said member, said clip being flattened at each side of its body portion w1th its upper extension flattened on its inner face and its lower extension rounded on its inner face.

A two-piece rail anchor of the character described, comprising a member formed with a central depending portion and an overlapping jaw at one end thereof and an oblong hole formed therethrough at its outer end portion and a fastening clip adapted to be passed through said opening, said clip being so constructed that when applied in its locked position it will be under high tension and at the same time maintain said member under high locking tension.
