This invention relates to time recording apparatus and provides special advantages in combination with time recorders of the so called dialtype. I
Asit is well known this'type of tune recorder-"is 'provided with a drum carry ng a time-sheet. The drum is locatedopposite the time controlled printing; device and eachline of the drum maybeadjustedfinto printing position by-means of a manually operable lever connected with the drum. The lever in turn maybe adjusted on-adial provided with distinguishing numbers so that each-number on the dialcorresp'onds to a predetermined identical printing space of the time sheet.
W hen-fat'the end ofa workingperiod thei sheetis removed from therecorder, it wi'll show the time at which eachworkman being indicated by its number entered and leftand theelapsed time and the due wages maybe calculated accordingly and recorded upon the samesheet'thus obtaining the payroll;
Up tothe present this payroll had to be completed by entering the workmensnames,
either by hand or typewriting- Thepresent application provides a time recorder-include ing a'p'rinting mechanism for'printing upon the'time sheets the workmens names 1n the proper placeson the sheet;
A further ob'ect of the invention is topro} vide a printing drum'within a time recorder with interchangeable type slugs toprint-upon the time sheet identifying characters corresponding to the different positions of the type drum.
A further object of the invention is'to provide means to selectively efl'ec't printing of the identifying characters'upon the time sheet.
' A further object of the invention consists in the provision of adjus'tingmeans to secure proper relative adjustment between the time sheet drum; and the printing device for identifying characters.
Other objects and advantages will bo hereinafter set forth in the accompanying" specig fication and claims andshown inthe draw- .lIIgS which show byway of illustration what is now, considered to the the preferred embodiment .of the invention Fig.1 of the drawings shows a general view of a dial time recorder, the rear plate of the cording to. the present inventionin its oper- 6 1 -Fig. 6 shows a detail of theprinting device;
Fig. '7 illustrates a time sheet ..E1g;.8, showsja modification of the printingmechanism. i x
the numeral 4 designates the housng enc sing thetimerecording and print- 111g mechanism generally designated at 1 and a drum; 2 carrying a: time sheet 3 (Fig. 3-),
Drum 2, isfixed upon shaft 5 carrying a lever 6-..By-m ans o a handle 7 and adjus ing holes in the dial 8, lever 6 and C0Ils'equently drnn Q maybe adj listed to different printing pos t ons, It is obvious that to'each adjust? ingpositionof thedial only one predeter m ned prlnting position; and printing space of thetime sheet is coordinated.
.According. to this invention there is profit vided a second printing device consisting of a drum 10 provided With interchangeable type slugs 11 -(seesFigs. 1-3). Drum 10 is mounted upon shaft 1-2, thelatter being; loosely locatedin bearingsl3 and 14. Bear ,lngsl3 and 1 4;are resiliently; and slidably arranged on plates 15 one on each side of the drum; said plates being connected With a frame 16 rockable uponshaft 17,

secure adjustment ofthe drumin a proper, normlalorstanting position. Frame, 16 car.- rles a roll-20 provided with a printing ribbon 21. Shaft 17;- upon which the printing frame is rockable-iszfiXe 1.1 hehousing and forms. a partaofframe- 23. A lower projection 2 1 of frame 16 is pivotally connectedwith rod ember h-which in turn .is pivotally connected at-its lower end with plate 26 pivso-tally; mounted at 27 and Provided with-a a handle :28, elf ha dle28; is inth pqsition' which there are no slugs.
shown in Fig. 1 printing drum 10 will not touch time sheet drum 2 but when handle 28 is moved downwardly frame 16 will be rocked counterclockwise and drum 10 will be pressed towards drum 2 so that printing may take place when drum 2 (Fig. 1) is turned counterclockwise by means oflev er 6.
To secure proper relative adjustment between time sheet drum and type drum besides grooved pin 18 and ball 19 there is provided an adjusting member 22 fixed upon the dial (see Fig. 5). Member 22 is provided with a pin 30 passing into the last hole of the dial and with two lugs 31, 32, forming stops for stem 29 of the time drum handle.
When stem 29 is in contact with stop 32 and type drum 10 is in its normal position handle 28 may be pressed down thus pressing the type drum against the time sheet drum. Lever 6 then may be turned one full revolution to stop 31 and back and it will be understood that all names on the type lugs will be printed upon the time sheet (see Fig. 7)
A modification of the adjusting mechanism and the printing device are shown in Fig. 8. The type drum 10 is provided with a member 33 passing in the usual slot 34: of the time drum serving to fasten the ends of the time sheet. Instead of the ribbon printing rolls 35 are used pivotally mounted upon frame 16 and pressed againsttype drum 10 by means of spring 36. r
It is one of the essential advantages of the present invention that the printing device may be accommodated immediately to the latest requirements. For: this purpose the type lugs 11 are interchangeable. Upon shaft 12 (see Figs. 3 and 6) is loosely mounted disk 37 provided with a spring plate 38 having a pin 39 which passes into a hole of type drum 10 to secure disk 37 in a certain position. Disk 37 has a slot 40 opposite If any slug has to be changed spring plate 38 and pin 39 are pulled outwardly and slot 40 of disk 37 is turned to the respective slot 41. Then the type slug may be removed and a new one inserted. Disk 37 is then turned back again to its normal position where it is secured by pin 39.
While there has been shown and described the fundamental novel features of the invention as applied to two modifications it will be understood that various omissions and substitutions and changes in the form and details of the device illustrated and in its operation may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention. It is the'intention therefore to be limited only as indicated by the scope of the following claims- For instance, while the illustrations of the invention show type slugs adapted to be inserted in the printing drum, it is obvious that individual type elements instead of com plete type slugs may be employed. In this connection the slots for holding the type elements may be made across the drum and the type elements inserted from the side.
