IMPROVEMENT IN RADIATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,602, dated September 26, 1876; application filed July 18, 1876.
and it consists in providing the sections with tapering nipples and corresponding holes to form the joints or connections between the sections, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a sectional view taken upon the line y 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken upon the line a; a; of Fig. 1.
A A represent the upright pipes or columns of a sectional radiator, each provided at the top with a closed cap or head-piece, B. In one side of this cap is a tapering hole, 0, while on the opposite side is a projecting tapering nipple, D. When the sections of the radiator are put together the nipple D of one section enters the hole (3 of the adjoining section, and, being tapering, the sections can be drawn or pressed together so as to make a steam-tight joint without any threads. The sections are held together by means of a rod, E, passing through projections G G on the top of the caps or head-pieces of the two outer sections, and nuts H screwed upon the ends of said rod. This simplifies and cheapens the construction of this class of radiators, and also renders it more easy to take apart for repairs, when necessary.
It is, of course, understood that the lower ends of the columns or pipes A A are united in a similar manner.

The combination of the pipes or columns A, head-pieces B, with tapering holes 0 and tapering nipples D, lugs G, rod E, and nuts H, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
