Description

Oct. 6, 1931. V w, A E 1,825,963
CLOTHESPIN Filed Dec. 29, 1950 F z I Invenior By 5mm Attorney Fatented Oct. 6, 1931 UETED STATES WILLIAM .B. LAKE, OF COMMERCE, TEXAS GLOTHESPIN Application filed December 29, 1930.
This invention relates to a clothes pin the general object of the invention being to provide a pin having a centrally arranged loop part for receiving the line and which will hold the pin on the line but which will permit the pin to be removed from the line and replaced thereon whenever desired, with a pair of gripping members on the pin for holding theclothes to the line, the gripping members being connected with the link member by horizontal portions to which the clothes may be connected if desired.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which: 7
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the clothes pin on the line.
Figure 2 is an end view of the pin.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 33 of Figure 1. c
Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
As shown in these views, the pin A is formed of one piece of wire which is shaped to provide the central loop 1, the end loops 2,
" the handle forming loops 3 and the spring members 4 which clamp the clothes to the line. Each of the loops 1 and 2 and the handle forming loops 3 are of substantially rectangular shape with the loops 2 paralleling the line, the loop 1 being arranged at right angles to the loops 2, and each loop 3 extended at right angles to the loops 2.
The central part of the wire is bent to form the central loop 1 with the two parts of the wire extending in opposite directions Serial No. 505,421.
from one of the upper corners of the loop 1, A it these portions of the wire being in alinement. By springing the upper end of the loop away from the inner end of the loop, the device can be placed on aclothes line or removed therefrom.
After forming the horizontal portions 5 the wire is bent downwardly and then inwardly and then upwardly to form the loops 2, the inner limb of the loop 2 having its extremity twisted around the part 5 then the wire is spaced to provide the loop 3, the lower limb of the loop 3 being twisted to form the coil 6 then the wire is extended downwardly to form the eye 7. The coil 6 with the extended end of the wire forming the eye 7 forms the gripping members for holding the clothes on the line.
The members 4 act to press the clothes on the line against the loops 2 and holds the pin firmly on the line. The loops 3 form handles for handling the device and for placing the same on the line and removing it therefrom and if desired the clothes may be placed on the part 5.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A clothes pin formed of a single piece of material having its central part bent to form a substantially rectangular loop for receiving the line, portions of the wire extending in opposite direction in a horizontal plane.
from one of the upper corners of said central loop, the end portions of the horizontal parts being bent to form a pair of substantially rectangular loops arranged at right angles to the first loop, the inner limb ofju each end loop being twisted around a horizontal bar and then shaped to form a loop extending outwardly at right angles from the end loop, the lower art of the outwardly extending loop extending inwardly into an end loop and twisted into a coil and terminating in a depending part for clamping the line with clothes thereon between the core part and each end loop.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
WILLIAM B. LAKE.
