IMPROVEMENT IN OIL-CANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,536, dated September 26, 1876; application filed October 29, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER N. THOMPSON, of Millville, in the county of Orleans and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Oil-Gan or Oiler, of which the following is a specification The figure is a sectional View of my improved oiler.
The object of this invention isto improve the construction of that class of oil cans or oilers in which the oil or other liquid is ejected from the can by pressing its bottom inward, and which shall be so constructed that it may be quickly and conveniently filled, and will allow the operator to see how much oil there may be in it without its being necessary to open the can. 1
The invention consists of an improved oiler, formed by the combination of the glass cup, made with an open bottom and with a bead around its edge, the rubber plate or disk, made with a bead around its edge, and the screw-tube, with each other, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the body or cup of the can, which is made of glass, with an open bottom and with a ridge or bead, at, around the outer side of its lower edge. B is a circular disk of rubber,
which is made of such a size as to cover the bottom of the cup or can A, and has a bead, b, formed around its edge. The rubber plate or bottom B is secured in place upon the cup A by springing the bead b of said bottom over the bead a of said cup, as shown in the figure.
O is a tapering discharge-tube, which is it made of metal, has its lower end or base enlarged, and has a screw-thread out upon the inner surface of said enlargement, to screw upon a screwthread formed upon the outer surface of the neck of the cup A or upon a band placed upon and secured to said neck. Rubber packing D is interposed between the edge of the neck of the cup A and the shoulder of the enlargement of the tube 0, to guard against leakage. The packing D is especially necessary when thescrew-thread is formed directly upon the neck of the glass cup A.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of glass body A and rubber bottom B, secured together by a bead of the latter sprung over an outerflange at the lower edge of the former, as and for the purpose specified.
