Description

Sept. 22, 1 31. M. MULLER 1,824,291 CAR FOR PASSENGER ROPEWATIS 7 Filed Sept. 12. 1928 Patented Sept. 22, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT oFFicE MAX M'ij'LLER, OF LEIPZIG-REUDNITZ, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO THE FIRM ADOLF BLEICI-IERT 82; 00., A. Ga, 01" LEIPZIG, GERMANY CAR FOR PASSENGER ROPEWAYS Application filed September 12, 1928, Serial No. 305,582, and in Germany September 10, 1927. i
The efficiency of passenger ropeways will depend, either directly or indirectly, on the passenger accommodation provided by the cars, and there is a distinct tendency in various directions to provide accommodation for an increased number of passengers per trip.
F or various reasons, the most generally adopted method of simply increasing the dimensions of the approved forms and constructions of smaller cars will not lead to success,
for instance, on account of the inadmissable increase in wheel pressure and the'inexpedient increase in the wind surface, or again on account of the unfavourable position of the If; centre of gravity.
been made to find a solution of the problem by coupling several smaller cars together in succession. This method is open to serious bjections owing to the unavoidably irregular ac oscillations of the two cars under side-winds and in view of the action of the second car, should the catch-device come into action on the leading car.
The object of the present invention is, to increase the efiiciency of passenger ropeways and to simultaneously avoid the above mentioned drawbacks. This object is attained by designing the car in stories, and so that the single stories can be easily detached from each other, and the cars can, consequently be employed as one-storied or as double-storied cars. This will provide a valuable and effective method of handling the peak trailic at certain hours of the day and on special days, with which the ropeway would not be able to cope with cars of the ordinary type. Hereby the advantages entailed by the employment of one carriage and one catch-device will be retained, whilst the dimensions of each story need not exceed the approved dimensions of the smaller cars, a factor of vital importance for the simple and reliable attachment of the cabin to the carriage and for smooth running. The necessarily increased wind surface, due to the enlargement of the car, will be amply neutralized by the considerably lower level of the centre of gravity, and this can be brou ht into greater prominence by issuing suitable traflic regulations (increased use of the lower story or stories). Given a like accommoda- Attempts have further tion, a change of passengers will also be of fected much more quickly on cars with several stories, providing of course, that a special platform is available for each story, an arrangement which will entail no difiiculties on stations in the customary construction.
The invention is illustrated in the only figure of the accompanying drawing showing a two-storied car with easily detachable connection between the two stories. The method of connection and the device for fixing and removing the lower stories do not constitute a part of the invention and do not restrict its application in any way;
The invention expressly provides for the possibility of enlarging the car by adding removable cabin parts at the front, rear and on the sides, either alone or in connection with the lower stories, or by the employment of a car with several stories, the single parts of which cannot be taken apart.
I claim 1. A car for passenger ropeways, comprising in combination a number of superposed compartments, bolts connecting said compartments so that they are easily detachable and adapted to be run either as a one-storied car or as a car with several stories as required.
2. A car as specified in claim 1, comprising in combination with the car bodies, detachable extensions and bolts for fitting said extensions to said car bodies for the enlargement of the accommodation for passengers.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
MAX MULLER.
