IICKIGAN, ASSIGNOR To run con'cmam mm, 110., or saonuw, IIGHIGAN, n conrom'rron or m YORK mun 3m Application filed September '26, 1930. Serial No. 484,885.
This invention relates to venetian blinds provided with a casein which the bl nd operating mechanism is mounted, and is more particularly'directed to the mountmg of the transverse roller therein, and on whlch the support and operating cords are wound.
One object of the inventlon is to prov1de a neat and substantial case in WhlCh said roller is mounted, andprovide plates on the ends of said roller mechanism for removably engaging the ends of said case,
Another object is to provide detachable supports or bearings for use with blinds of extreme width, so'that the transverse operating roller may be held in proper alignment, and prevent binding, m salignment, and consequently faulty operation of the mechanism.
A. further object is to provide a mechanism so constructed that the entire blind structure can be demounted from the window frame as a unit, so that windows can be readi- 1y cleaned, repaired, or as occasion or necessity may require.
The above and other ob ects Wlll appear as the specification progresses, reference be ng had to the accompanying drawlngs, n which I have shown the preferred embodlment of my invention, and in which like reference numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views thereof.
In the drawings: Y
Fig. 1 is a front view of a venetian blind made in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 isan enlarged front view showing the case with the cover removed, and the transverse operating roller mounted therein.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view illustrating the removal 'of-the roller from the case.
Fig. 4 is a front view of one ofthe end Fig. 10 is an enlarged front view illus trating one of the intermediate bearings and its mounting.
Fig. 11 is a part sectional end view.
Referring now more specifically to the drawings, the numeral 5 indicates a window frame or casing to which a pair of brackets 6 are secured by means of screws or the like, a preferably sheet metal case 7 being demountably supported on these brackets, and a transversely disposed roller 8 is removably mount- .ed therein.
The roller 8 is preferably formed of pipe and is provided with spaced apart enlarged sections 9 and 10 respectively, blind support cords 11 and 12 being anchored thereto so that the cords may be wound thereon, the opposite ends of said cords being secured to the end slat 13 of the blind. A larger section 14 is provided directly adjacent the section 9, and an operating cord 15 is adapted to be wound thereon, and it will be obvious that as the cord is wound on or unwound from the roller, that the slats will be raised or lowered accordingly, these enlarged sections can be formed of wood or any other desired material, and are anchored in position on the pipe in any approved manner, or the roller may be a solid shaft, or may be formed in one piece having these enlarged sections formed integral therewith.
i In the construction shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 8 of the drawings, the front of the case is shown open, and a detachable snap cover plate 16 forms a closure for said opening, a slightly different construction being shown in Fig. 9, and in which the top of the case is open, no cover plate being required due to the fact that the top is concealed from view when the case is in position on the window frame, however, a cover can be provided should it be desired.
The ends of the case are formed of individual plates 17 securely welded or riveted to the top, bottom and back wall, the top and bottom edges of said end plates being bent inwardly and thenceupwardly and inwardly as shown at 18, to form ways in which end plates 19 and 20 respectively are slidably mounted, the end plate 19 being formed with 55 P 1 of spaced apart slats, the combination with 60 said plates being removable as a unit with 'to engage said threaded member so that when the roller is actuated by operation .of the operating cord, the roller will be shifted transversely, and the support cords and operating cord will be evenly wound thereon and raise the slats, rotation of the roller in the reverse direction shifts the transverse roller in the opposite direction, and the slats are lowered by gravity.
In rollers of extreme length one or more intermediate supports and bearings are provided,- one support and a bearing being shown in Figs. 10 and 11, this comprises a vertically disposed plate member 23, the edges of which are turned and secured to the case by welding or rivets, (not shown), the front edge of the plate being shaped as shown at 24 to acv commodate the bearing member 25' in which the pipe member 8 is journaled, the top and bottom edges of said bearing being grooved to slidably engage the edges of the plate, so that when it is desired to remove the roller, the bearing readily slides out of position.
Suitable openings are provided in the bottom wall of the ease to accommodate the support and control' cords, and conventional grummets 26 are inserted to provide a rounded edge to prevent execessive wear of the cords. Where the window openings are of limited width'it will of course be obvious that no intermediate supports and bearings are required, and it will also be understood that the ends of the case may be formed in various other ways to permit the end plates I mounting.
to be slidably inserted or removed without departing from the spirit of the invention. The device is easy and simple to remove, is very economical to manufacture, and is of neat and pleasing appearance, the case being painted to harmonize, with the woodwork or color scheme in the home or building. I From the foregoing description it will be obvious that I have perfected a very simple, practical, and convenient venetian blind What I claim is i 1. In a venetian blind having a plurality a supporting member, end plates removably mounted on said supporting member, and a winding roller mounted on said end plates and shiftable endwise as the roller is wound,
- said roller.
2. A venetian-blind including a case, end plates removably mounted in said case, and a transversely shiftable operating roller removably journaled on said endplates and shiftable endwise'as the roller is wound, said roller being removable as a unit with said plates. T I
3. A venetian blind mechanism including a case, a pair of end plates removably mounted therein and formed with laterally projecting stub shafts, and a transversely disposed winding roller mounted on said stub shafts and removable as a unit with said end plates.
4. A venetian blind mechanism including a supporting member, end plates removably mounted thereon and formed with centrally disposed laterally projecting stub shafts, a transversely shiftable Winding roller journaled thereon, said roller being removable as a unit from said supporting member.
5. A venetian blind mechanism including i a case, end plates mounted to slide therein and formed with inwardly projecting stub shafts, a transversely shiftable roller journaled on said stub shafts, and having spaced apart enlarged winding sections, said end plates and roller being removable as a unit from said case.
6. A venetian blind mechanism including versely shiftable winding roller journaled f thereon and provided with an intermediate bearing, an intermediate support in which said bearing is removably mounted, said end plates, winding roller, and bearing being removable as a unit from said case.
8. A venetian blind including a case provided with an intermediate support, end
plates removably mounted in said case, a transversely shiftable winding roller journaled on said end plates and provided with a bearing intermediate its length adapted to be mounted in said support, said end plates, roller, and bearing being assembled in or removable from said case as a unit.
9. A'venetian blind including a supporting member having an intermediate support, end plates removably mounted on said support, a transversely shiftable winding roller journaled thereon and provided with a bearing intermediate its length, and mounted in said support, said end plates, bearing, and roller being removable as a unit from said supporting member.
10. A venetian blind including a case provided with an intermediate bearing support, end plates removably mounted in said case, a transversely shiftable winding roller, a bearing mounted thereon and detachably engaging said bearingv support, said end plates,
Ill
roller, and bearingbeing removable as a. unit from said case. I v
11. A venetian blind includin a su porting member, a winding roller adapt to be shifted endwise as the roller is wound, stud shafts on which said roller is mounted, said stud shafts being removable as a. unit with said winding roller.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature. 7
