Another object of the invention is to provide a toy as described which is also instructive and which can be economically manufactured as many of the parts may be made in the form of sheet metal stainpings.

The invention consists of an inverted'body l composed of side members 2, end members 3 and top 4 all securely held together. A slot 7 is provided fora bell crank 8 which passes therethrough. Arcuately formed slot 6 is provided for passage of pins 9 therethrough. A circular aperture 5 is provided for reception of the turntable 10. Front wheels 11 are fixedly mounted on axle 12.
and rear wheels 13 are fixedly mounted on axle 14, axles 12 and 14 being rotatably mounted in bearings 15 attached to side members 2. i The rear animated group comprises two fowl 16 and'l'r', mounted on pins 9, and an axe 18 the handle 19 of which is a part of the bell crank 8; The forward animatedgroup comprises a stationary globe 20provided with an electric lamp 21 at the topthereof, and the three figures 22 representative of human beings, and an aeroplane 23 all coacting with aturntable 10. Chimes are disposed beneath the turntable and consist of a series of gongs 24 having different frequencies of vibration.
The operating device for the rear animated group consists of a pair-of arms 25 and 26 fixed to axle 15 andextending radially therefrom, the ends of the arms being bent in parallelism with the axle 15 and oppositely disposed relative to eachother. A bracket 27 has pivotally mounted thereon at 28 a cam plate29 which is provided with an internal cam surface 30 for operation of the transverse sides of cam plate 29 are adapted to engage the arms 25 and 26, and they revolve with the axle 14. A spring 32 retains the depending arm of hell crank 8' against the cam surface 30.
The operating. device for the forward animated group comprises abevel pinion 33 fired to axle 12 and meshing with bevel gear 34 which in turn is fixedto vertical shaft 35 rotatable in bearings integral with a bracket 36. A pinion 3 is fixed to the upper end of shaft 35 andmeshes with a gear 38 which is fixed to a hollow spind'le'39, the spindle'39 having mounted at its upper end the turn table 10. A vertical spindle 40 is rotatable in the hollow spindle 39 andmounted in the bracket 36 as indicated, the upper end thereof being provided with means for mounting the globe 2O thereon as indicated at 41. The turntable 10 is provided with aplurallty of pivots 42 rotatably mounted at points about the, center, the various animated objects 22 being fixedly mounted thereon, the lower ends of pivots 42 being provided Wltlfl' a spider member 43 having a plurality of arms 44 adapted to engage the projections 45 on the stationary ring 46. The chimes24r are mounted on a ring 47 by means of shouldered bolts i8, and are concentrically disposed relative to gear 38. A series of tappers l9 are pivotally mounted at 50 and are retained against the gongs 24; by spring 51, the upper end 52 of the tapper lever being adapted for engagement with thetapper operating plate 53. The tappers are mounted in radially disposed yokes 5d inte gral with bracket 36. A cross member 55 acts as a support for bracket 36. The tanper operating plate 53 is of triangular form and is pivotally mounted at 56 on gear 38 and revolves therewith-and is so disposed that, when passing a tapper arm 52, the tapper arm is forced outwardly until the, vertex 57 is passed allowing spring 51 to cause the tapper 4.9 to strike its cooperating gong. A stop pin 58 is so positioned that when the vehicle is reversed, the tapper arm 52 first contacting with the higher vertex 57 will move the plate 53 about the pivot 56 until surface 59 contacts with pin 58.
The lamp lighting arrangement comprises the ordinary flashlight lamp 21. mounted at the top of the globe 20 and having a pair of conductors 60 and 61 extending downward through the globe 20, one of the conductors being connected tothe pivot 41,- forming thereby a connection through the metal parts of the forward operating device indicated at 62, a connection 63 being made therefrom to the battery 6 w rich is suitably retained by spring clips 65 and 66, the oi )posite pole of the battery being connected by a conductor 67 to a brush 68 attached to body 1 side memher 2. A mechanical toy comprising a wheeled vehicle having a bevel pinion mounted on one axle thereof and meshing with a bevel gear mounted on a vertical spindle having a spur pinion mounted at the upper end and meshing with a spur gear mounted on a sleeve rotatably mounted on a vertical spindle fixed in a supporting frame, said sleeve having fixed thereto a turn-table provided with a plurality of vertical spindles rotatably mounted and having afiixed at the lower ends, star wheels, a multiplicity of cooperating fixed projections adapted to rotate said star wheels when said turn-table is rotated, an aeroplane mounted on a spindle fixed to said turn-table and manikins mounted on the retatable spindles.

A mechanical toy comprising a wheeled vehicle having a bevel pinion mounted on one axle thereof and meshing with a bevel gear mounted on a vertical spindle having a spur pinion mounted at the upper end meshing with a spur gear mounted on a quill, a vertical spindle fixedly mounted in a supporting frame and extending through said quill and having a globe mounted at the upper end, a turn-table fixed on said quill and rotatable therewith, a plurality of equi angularly spaced vertical spindles mounted in said turntable and passing therethrough, one of said spindles being fixed the other spindles being rotatably mounted having star wheels aifixed to the lower end, an aeroplane mounted on said fixed spindle, manikins mounted on said rotatable spindles and a fixed ring concentrically mounted beneath said turntable Y and provided with a multiplicity i vertical projections adapted to cooperate with said star wheels when said turn-table is rotated.

A mechanical toy comprising a four wheeled vehicle having a bevel pinion mount- 'pivotally' mounted ed on one axle thereof, a vertical spindle fixedly mounted in a supporting bracket and having a globe mounted at the top thereof, a sleeve rotatably mounted on said spindle, a spur gear fixed to said sleeve, interposed gearing cooperating between said bevel pinion and said spur gear, a disc fixed adjacent the upper end of said sleeve, a plurality of spindles rotatably mounted in said disc and having star Wheels aifixed' to the lower end beneath said disc cooperating with projections on a ring concentricallymounted beneath said disc, a bell mounting ring fix edly mounted beneath said disc and having a'series of bells mounted thereon, tappers resiliently retained against said bells and on said supporting bracket, a triangular plate pivotally mounted on said spur gear rim, a stop adapted to permit angular movement of said triangular plate and cooperating adjacent the vertices thereof, two sides of said plate being adapted to cooperate with said tappers.

A mechanical tov comprising a four wheeled vehicle, a vertical spindle fixedly mounted in a supporting bracket, a sleeve rotatably mounted on said spindle, a turntable fixed to the upper end of said spindle and rotatable therewith, a gear train cooperating between one of the axles of said vehicle and said sleeve, a fixed vertical spindle adjacent the periphery of said turn-table, a plurality of rotatable vertical spindles passing through said turn-table adjacent the periphery andhaving star wheels afiixed to the lower ends, a ring concentrically mounted beneath said turn-table and provided with a multiplicity of engaging members for said star wheels, a cam plate eccentrically mounted relative to said sleeve and adapted to cooperate with tapper arms, a plurality of spring operated tappers pivotally mounted in said supporting bracket, the tapper arms extending upwardly to cooperate with saidcam plate, a bell mounting ring concentric to and mounted beneath said turn-table, a series of bells mounted on said ring in radial registry with said tappers.
