CLAMP AND SHOE LAST VISE Filed-Aug. 1'7, 1929 ATTORNEY dPatented i 1 nai'iying drawings forming a part r of Fig. 1.
CLAMP AND message:
. Application filed August 17,1929; Serial $0,336,721.
This invention relates to shoe Vises or clamps and'inore particularly to a table or bench vise of the type shown-and described "p p I The shoe last or form is fprovidedwith an openingtoyreceive'the smooth, end 15 of a feed screw 16. The feed-screw is'mounted in a transverse, internally threaded boss- 17 on the upper endof the opposite arm 18iof in my co-pending application'Serial No.
: 362,112, filed May'1 0th,.1929.
I One of the objects of my invention is to provide a show viseparticularly adapted for shoe lasts of various types and sizes to facilitate thehand sewing operations. 7
Another object ofmy invention is to provide a vise and bench. clamp including pro vision for positioning a detachable shoe last whereby the shoe'and particularly the heel portion may be firmly held in position to enable the operator to perform the hand sewing operations onthe sole and shoe upper.
A further object of my invention is to construct a combined vise and clainp'which will be simple, easilymanufactured at a comparam tively low cost, efficient and practical, strong,
durable and capable of use'on any type of work bench either in the factory 'orindi vidual shop. 7 i f To enable others skilled in the art to more fully comprehendthe underlying features of 7 my invention, reference is had to the accomspecification in which Fig. '1' is a front view.-
, Fig. 2 isan end view.
' Fig.3isatop plan. f
a detail taken on the line 4 l Fig. 4 is Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout theseveralviews,
5, designates anannular'base or support which I is preferably integral with'an upwardly tapered post or standard 6 having a central 4g bore or opening to receive the lower end 7 of a removable, freely rotatable rod 8. The
post or standard is tapped toreceivea' wing j screw 9 for locking the rod.
On the-rodr 8 ayoke shaped casting or frame 9a having a central'hollow boss 10' is positioned, saidboss being tapped to receive a threaded wing screw 11 forlocking said casting or frame to the rod. The vertical arm 12 of the casting or frame is'provided 50 with a substantially squareserrated or'roughof this 7 changes and modifications as may fairly fall within the scope of the subject matter now ositioned on the'shoe lastor form 14.
the frame or'c'asting. On the-end of the feed screw, Iprovide a hand wh'eel or handle 19 whereby-the screw may berotated to advance the shoelastor'form toward the s'err'ated sur- 'face of the opposite arm,-thusjclampi'ng the; sho in position to facilitate work-thereon,
a I "From this construction, it will be seen that the shoe last or form may be set at any desiredangle relative tothe frame" or casting .andeitherlocked or unlocked quieklyrbythe proper rotation of they-feedscrew: Since the shoe last'szor'forms are standardizedythe device isuadapted' for use on eitherimenis, -women?sforchildrens'shoes;-
- c j While I haveshownand gdesorlbed inyrinf-Qfx l I ,vention'with some degreevof particularity, it
will be realized that other modifications and ditions. I therefore do not wish to be limited and restricted tothe exact details shown and. described but reserve the right to make such I being claimed.
'Having shown tion, what I claim as new and desire cure by Letters Patent is c I 1. A. device of the ,classdescribed comprising a base having a standard, a rod adapted to be adjusted within the standard, around; and along a vertical axis, means for locking i to sesaid rod in said standard, a yokeshaped frameon the upper end of the rod, means for changes may be resorted tounder special con- 7 j, p
and described my invenlocking said frame to the rod, one arm of said frame having a substantially vertical f roughened surface on its inner face adapted to engage the heel portionof a shoe, a feed screw engagedin a tapped, horizontally disposed hole on the upper end of the opposite arm of saidframe, a shoe last on one end of i the feed screw, and aIhand wheel on the Opposite end of said Screw orv advancin or retarding saidlast, relative to the roughened surface of said arm.
2. A clamp and shoe last vise, comprising a base having a standard, a rod adapted to be adjusted within the standard around and along a vertical axis, means for locking said rod in. said standard,.a yoke shapedframe on the u perendjof the rod, means for locking said rame to said rod, one arm ofsaid frame having a substantially vertically disposed roughened surface on its innerfa'ce", adapted to engage the heel portion of a shoe, a feed screw engaged in a tapped, horizontally dis-' posed hole on the upperrend of the so posite arm of said frame, a shoe Iast rotatab y and removably mounted'on one end of the feed screw andwsuhstantially radially extending therefrom, and a hand wheel'on the opposite end of said screwv'for advancingand with drawing saidl-ast, relative to the roughened S rfaceofsaid arm. I i i L 3.- In a clamp andshoe last vise, a standard,
a yoke. shaped frame mounted on: said standlard adaptedto be adjusted vertically,
as well-as angnl arly, in a horizontal plane, inzrel'ation to said standard, a pivot screw carried by one arm of said frame and'horizontallyz adjustable towards and away from the opposite'armof saidrrframe, and a last rotatably= and:v removably: supported at its heel: portion by theicylindrie'al end of said screw, and a. serrated, substantially verti'eal sirrface on saidopposite arm registering with and facing towards the heel portion of said last, said" last being adapted to be clamped by said screw against. said serrated surface in a position of preferred angular adjzustment inavertical plane i s- In'tes'timony whereof I afiix my signature. 7 JOHN .RATTAZZI.
