The lower portion of the cabinet C is pro vided to one side of the member 1 with a partition wall 23, said wall extending from the bottom wall 24 of the cabinet to a point' ilightly above the lower portion of the mem- This partition wall 23 is provided with a pair of vertically spaced and horizontally disposed trackways 25 with which are operatively engaged the flanges or shoes 26 extending outwardly from the side wall of a sliding carriage S. The bottom wall 28 of the carriage S engages a trackway 29 disposed horlzontally along a s1de wall 30 of the cabinet C. This sliding carriage S is adapted to be moved forwardly and rearwardly with respect to the tubular member 1 and is normally positioned directly below said member 1 to receive the lowermost cup D when dropped from said member.
The carriage S in addition to the side wall 27 is provided with an upstanding rear wall 31. Projecting rearwardly from the upper portion of this rear wall 31 at substantially the transverse center thereof is a bracket 32, to which is operatively connected, as at 33,
an end portion of an elongated lever 34.-
This lever 34 extends rearwardly and laterally with respect to the member 1 and has its central portion pivotally connected, as at 35, with an outstanding bracket 36 carried by the upper portion of the partition wall 23. This lever 34 extends beyond the opposite side of the partition wall 23 through a suitable opening 37 therein. The outer extremity of the lever 34, or that end portion thereof remote from the bracket 32, has operatively engaged therewith a retractile spring 38 also anchored to the rear wall 39 of the cabinet. This spring 38 is of sufiicient tension to exert sufficient pull on the lever 34 to maintain the sliding carriage S in its normal position below the member 1.
The outer end portion of the lever 34 also has operatively engaged therewith an end portion of an elongated rigid member or rod 40 supported for sliding movement by the bearing members 41 extending from the partition' wall 23, endwise movement of the member or red 40 operating to effect requi-' site swinging movement of the lever 34. The forward end portion of the member or rod 40' has pivotally connected therewith, as at 42, an end portion of a pitman 43 which in turn is operatively engaged, as at 44, with a rotary operating member or wheel 45. This member or wheel 45 is adapted to be rotated to an extent sufficiently to effect a stroke of the member or rod 40 of a length sufficient to assure the requisite functioning of the machine. As herein disclosed, the periphery of the rotary member or wheel 45 is provided with an outstanding operating member or finger piece 46 adapted to project exterior-1y of the casing through a properly positioned and vertically disposed slot provided in the upper portion of the front wall of the casing C.
Rearwardly of the member 1 and within the casing C is a faucet 48 of a push valve type, said faucet being in communication with a suitable source of water or liquid supply located as preferred.
The rotary member or wheel 45 is adapted to be normally locked against turning movement by a suitable latching mechanism under check control but as this in itself forms no particular part of the present invention it is not believed necessary that a detailed description and illustration thereof be given. It is to be understood that any preferred locking mechanism and check controlled mechanism may be employed.
As is believed -to be clearly understood, the faucet 45 is normally closed with the valve of the faucet bein moved into open ment of the yoke 50 the stem 49 will be moved inwardly and the associated faucet valve adjusted to open position.
' When a check controlled mechanism is employed the requisite coin is adapted to be inserted through the chute 52, the lower portion of the casing being provided with a coin box 53 for the collection of the coins being deposited.
In operation, upon upward pull being imposed upon the finger piece 46 the rotating member or wheel 45 turns a distance suflt cient to move the sliding carriage S rearward- 1y a distance to bring the cup D thereon below thefaucet 48. As the carriage S moves rearwardly, the lever 34 comes into contact with the finger 54 depending from the inner portion of the yoke 50 and as the lever 34 continues its movement, the yoke 50 will be moved inwardly of the faucet 48 a distance suificient to carry the stem 49 inwardly to move the valve of the faucet into open position. It is to be und rstood that this operation is such that the faucet is not opened until after the cup D on the carriage S is properly positioned below the discharge opening of member '55 so that-upon initial downward movement of the pitman'43'thesa1ne comes into contact-with the trigger 55 resulting in the lower portion of the block 8 being forced inwardly toward the member 1 and the upper portion ofthe block 8 together with the'mem- 7 her 4 swinging outwardly to release the lowturned by the person as far as it will go he mitting the pitman 43 on ermost cup'D which will drop down upon the' carriage S positioned below the member 1.

During this release of the lowermost cup there will, of course, be a slight rearward movement of the carriage S but not suflicient to interfere with the proper place-' ment of the released cup D thereon.
Afterthe member or wheel 45 has been releases the same and the requisite reverse movements of the various parts will be accomplished through the medium of the spring 38. During this reverse movement the car-' riage S with the filled cup D thereon will move forwardly to-its normal position, pr or 1 zineadapted to contain'a stackiof cups, awall 'of themagazine "having a slot; a holding member "extending within the" magazine through said slot for engagement with the to which the arm 57 will drop to remove any hinderance or obstruction being offered to the cup by the lug 59. During the returned movement of the member or wheel 45 and the pitman 43, the pitman 43 will contact from below with the wedge-like tripper and cause the same to slide upwardly and inwardly with respect to the block 8, thus perits'return movement to readily pass the trigger 55 without effecting the release of a cup D.

From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a vending machine constructed in accordance with my in vention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operatedyand it will also beobvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of theseveral parts herein from the lowermost-cup.

A vending machine comprising a magazine adapted to contain a stack of cups, a wall of the magazine having a slot, a holding member extending within the magazine through said slot for engagement with the lowermost cup, a block positioned exteriorly of the magazine, means for supporting said block for swinging movement, the outer end portion of the holding member being pivotally connected with an end portion of the block, movement of said end portion of the block in one direction releasing the holding member from the cup, a dog supported for swinging movement, one end portion of the dog being movable within the magazine to engage a cup immediately above the lowermost cup, an end portion of the block being provided with a track, the second end portion of the dog having a part engaging said track causing the dog to move into engagement with the cup when the block is moved to release the holding member and to move the dog into inoperative position when the holding member is in engagement with the cup.
