I claim:
1. In acutter head, a body having a plurality of elongated sockets therein, holders in the sockets, knives in the holders, means conjeoting all of the holders simultaneously and to an equal extent longitudinally of the sockets, and means for permittingeach of the knives to be moved separately longitudinally of the sockets.
2. In a cutter head, a body having a plurality of elongated sockets therein, elongated holders arranged longitudinally within the sockets, elongated knives arranged longitudi nally within the holders, means connected" with the holders and operable upon rotation to retract or project all of the holders simul-: taneously and to an equal extent longitudi-- nally of the sockets, and means for permitting each of theknives to be moved separately within the holders longitudinally of the socketswithout disturbing the position of .the holders within the sockets.
3. In a cutter head, a body having a plural-'- ity of sockets therein, holders in thesockets provided with rack portions, knives in the holders, a centrally arranged gear in mesh with the. rack portions of the holders and operable upon rotation to retract or project all of the holders simultaneously and to an equal extent, and means serving to clamp both the holders in the socketsand the knives in the holders.
4. In a cutter head, a body having a socket therein, a holder in the socket, a knife in the ;of the'same for permitting the outer end to holder, means in thesocket engaging with the sides of the holder adjacent the inner end be swung laterally about such engaging means as a pivot, and other means in the socket engaging with the sides of the holder adjacent the outer end of the same for securing the outer end in any desired position laterally of the socket.
5 In a cutter head, a body having a socket therein, a holderin the socket, a knife in the holder, two opposed studs in the socket engaging with the sides of the holder adjacent the inner end of the same for permitting the outer end to be swung laterally about said studs as a pivot, and means in the socket engaging-with the sides of the holder adjacent the outer end of the same for securing the outer end in any desired position laterally of the socket.
6. In a cutter head, a body having a socket therein, a holder in the socket, a knife in the holder, means in the socket engaging with the sides of the holder adjacent the inner end of the same for permitting the outer end to be swung laterally about such engaging means as a pivot, andv two opposed screws in the socket engaging with the sides of the holder adjacent the outer end of the same for securing the outer end in any desired position laterally of the socket.
7. A knife holder for association with a cutter head, characterizedby a slot in which a knife is adapted tobe positioned, and a longitudinally extending rack formation with which an operating pinion is adapted to mesh to project or retract the holder with respect to the cutter head.
8. An elongated knife holder for associatiol'rwith a cutter head, characterized by longitudinally extending slot between the sides of which-a knife is adapted to be position'ed,and a longitudinally extending rack formation with which an operating pinion is adapted to mesh to project or retract the holder with respect to the cutter head.
