The present invention; generally stated,
. relates to machinery used in wooden box 10 tion for the so-calle slitting or cutting ,from' construction endh as more es eciel relation to a slitting machine as use 111 cigar box manufacture.
The leading object of the present iIlYQIl-r tion may be said to reside in the provision of a novel form of mschln'e simple, eflicient, and relatlvel inexpensive construc an integral structure of multiple height, complete box irames.
A iurther object resides in the provision of general details oi construction and in t e sec. of the invention Wilibe. more inllyr un' erstood fromthe following description taken in connection I with the accompanying drawings tormmg part hereof, 2 and 1n 1 is s view side elevation of a -mrachine embodying the invention Fig, 2 is a topor plan View the 'eof. guldes 56 011 table '1 under the guides till ion the box parts pass through the cutting parts of the saw 5 and are separated. The lugs are bars connecting the two chains, the lower chain being lower than the table top, and the sprocket set below the table top with plates 63 set above them to make a sliding surface for the box. These chains entirely encircle the guides 56 and their supporting members and the box enters the enclosure at a time when no lug interferes. 36Qis adjustable two wayszhorizontally to guide different width box frames or structures; and to permit as small an opening as possible between itself and the chain lug 4 as lug 4 passes guide 36. The guides 56 are adjustable at 54 for different width boxes and one of the guides 56 has spring compensation at 57 for slight variation in the different'box parts.
After the box parts are split at the front edge of the saw, the box parts are guided by the guides to the end of the table, said box parts being propelled by the next following box part. The guides are adjustable for various sizes of box parts by clamping guide bracket 37 at proper position and the guides 43 keep the saws from again cutting the box parts as the parts pass the rear end of the saw. The guard 41 prevents anything from coming in contact with the saw at its rear as well as holding down the split box parts. stood 'in the connection, are set to abut against the saw to deflect the box parts as the same pass the rear end of the saw, thus preventing the saw teeth from again cutting the box parts. The guard 41 is suitably held down, it being understood that it is hinged atits front end to guide 55. The guard 41 is hinged to the fixed guard 60, which guard is attached to guide 55.
The saw 5'is mounted with the shaft 44 and motor 6 which drives both on a plate 47 which is mounted on plate 48 by a swivel that permits vertical aligning of the saw.
Plate 48 is mounted on plate 49 in such a manner as to permit aligning of the saw 5 horizontally. v
a The eccentric pin 13 on the gear 12 driven by the gear 11 on the shaft 45 has a link 46 fastened to it which keeps an arm 27 moving forward and backward. This arm 27 is clamped at 28 to a rock shaft 29 to which is fastened another arm 30, having a link 31 which is connected to the sliding plunger 2 which conveys the integral parts from table 1 to a position which enables the chains 3 to continue their motion past the saw 5. The gears and sprockets are designed to keep plunger 2 and lugs 4 in unison.
As the plunger 2 pushes the box parts forward they are guided at 36 to direct the box parts to the proper position for the chains 3 to continue their forward motion. As the chains 3 continue forward after the box The guide The guides 43, it is to be under parts are separated the box parts travel between guides 50 which are adjustable at 37 for different sizes of boxes.
The saw arbor 44 and motor shaft 7 are connected with a flexible coupling 46 and are mounted on a plate ,47which has adjustment vertically and horizontally to align the saw 5 for a straight cut. The saw 5 revolves in a vertical plane upon horizontal shaft-44. It will be understood that after severing of box parts, bottoms are applied in the usual manner and which: forms -no part of the present invention.
I am aware that the invention may be embodied in'other specific forms without departing from the spirit oressential attributes thereof, and I therefore 'de'sirethe present embodimentto be considered in all" respects as illustrative and not restrictive' reference being had to the appended claims:
