It has for one of its objects to provide a cabinet of this character which is simple,
7 line 2-2, F igure'l. Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical section taken substantially in the plane of line 3-3, Figure 2. Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary transverse section taken on line 4-4, Figure 2.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The improved cabinet, which is constructed of furniture steel, consists of side walls 10, a rear wall 11, top and bottom walls 12 and 13, respectively, and a swinging door 14 hinged at 15.
At its four corners the cabinet is provided with upright enlargements or hollow, riblike projections, theset at the front of the cabinet facing forwardly and the set at the rear facing rearwardly. These enlargements, indicated generally by the numeral 16,Care preferably formed, as by stamping or otherwise, integrally with the side walls 10 of the cabinet; As shown in Figure 2, the opposite ends of these cabinetwalls are bent to provide oppositely-disposed upright channels or 'guideways 17, which open inwardly into the cabinet and extend in a direction transversely thereof. The marginal edges of the channel-shaped portions 16 extend .inwardlygin opposing relation to form companion front and rear attaching flanges 18,'the rear wall 11 of the cabinet being secured to the rear flanges, as by welding or otherwise, and the door 14 being hinged to one of the front flanges and abutting at its free edge against the other of said flanges.
F ltted into the corner channel-ways 17 are detachable and interchangeable U-shaped bars 19 whose legs face outwardly and snug 1% or' frlctionally engage the sides of said c annel-ways, while their web portions 20 extend across the open inner sides thereof, as shown in Figures 2 and 3. The web portions 20 of these bars constitute supports for adustable shelves 21 and to this end they are provlded with a vertical row of slots or openmgs 22 for receiving detachable, brackets 23, by which the shelves may be supported at the elevations desired. While these brackets may be of any appropriate construction, that shown in the drawings by way of example, particularly Figure 4, is provided at one slde with a depending anchoring book 24 whlch is adapted to engage one or another of the slots 22 in the channel bar, and at its other side with an angular or ofl'set flange 25 which forms a rest for the customary depending. flange 26 of the shelf. As shown in igure 3, the lower end of the bracket has a lateral extension or guide 27 which is adapted to bear against the cabinet wall and serves as a gage in properly guiding the bracket-hook 1nto its slot.
Iclaim as my invention 1. A cabinet of the character described, having upright guide-ways adjacent its corners facing into the cabinet, and shelf-supporting members fitted in said guide-ways, said members including legs .engaging the sides of the guide-ways and web portions extending across the open faces of said guideways.
2. having. upright U-shaped corner guide-ways facing into the cabinet in parallel relation, and detachable members frictionally fitted in said guide-ways and including means for supporting shelves at varying elevations within the cabinet, said members being U- shaped in cross-section and fitted in op osing relation to the guide-ways with their web portions extending across the open faces of said ways.
5 A cabinet of the character described,
A cabinet of the character described,-
having upright corner guide-"ways niacin into the cabinet in parallelrelation, channe bars having their legs facing ontwardl and frictionally engaging the opposing si es of said guide-ways, the web portions of said oars extending across the open sides of the guide-ways and each having a vertical row of openin s therein, and shelf-supporting brackets a apted for detachable engagement with any one of said channel bar openings,
4:. A cabinet of the character described, comprisin side walls and a rear wall, the side wallsieing provided at their front and rear ends with integrally formed guide-ways, the guide-ways of each side wall being disposed opposite each other and facing into the cabinet, and channel bars fitted into the guide-ways, the web portions of said bars extending across the open ends of the guideways and having means for adjustably receiving shelf-supporting brackets.
5, A cabinet 0 the character described, comprising side walls and front and rear walls, the side walls extending beyond the planes of the front and rear walls and shaped at their corresponding ends to provide hollow, rib-like enlargements disposed vertically at the four corners of the cabinet, said enlargements forming upright channel-ways opening into the interior of the cabinet with the channel-ways of each side wall disposed oppositeeach other, and U-shaped bars for supporting shelving fitted in said channelways with their legs facing outwardly and engaging the sides of the latter and with their web portions extending across the open sides of the channel-ways.
