Patented Aug. 18, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ORESTO BALZANO, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE GREIST MANU- FACTURING COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT THREAD CUTTER Application filed April 9, 1930.
said loop is a part having a V-shaped notch with cutting edges.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is an elevation of the improved thread cutter. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same looking from the left of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a top view of the same.
Referring to the drawings, 12 denotes the body of the cutter, which is of thin sheet steel, said body being in the form of a loop or eye adapted to be sprung onto and embrace a presser-bar, denoted by dotted lines in Fig.
1. The loop or eye 12 has an integral extension 13 the outer end of which is turned backward forming a flange 14 which is preferably at an acute angle to the extension 13,
the metal between said extension and flange being cut away to form a V-shaped notch 15 with sharpened edges 16 and into which notch the thread will be drawn to be severed.
By bending the metal back at an acute angle to the extension 13 to form the flange 14, the edges 16 of the V-shaped notch. 15 will be in the same plane, as will be understood from Fig. 2, so that these edges may both be ground or sharpened together.
As the device consists of a single part of thin sheet steel it is obvious that it can be made at little cost, and it is also clear that it can be readily attached to a presser-bar and will be securely held in place by its spring loop 12, it will also be understood that the improved cutter may be used elsewhere than on a sewing machine.
Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A thread cutter consisting of a single thin piece of sheet steel bent to form an attaching spring loop integral with which loop is an extension the end of which is bentto form a flange disposed at an angle to the said Serial No. 442,895.
extension, said cutter being constructed with a notch, having sharpened edges, between said extension and said flange.
2. A sewing machine thread cutter consisting of a single thin piece of sheet steel bent r to form an attaching spring loop adapted to embrace the prsser-bar of the machine and integral with which loop is an extension the end of which is bent to form a flange disposed at an angle to the said extension, said cutter being constructed with a V-shaped notch, having sharpened edges, both in the same plane, between said extension and said flange.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature.
ORESTO BALZANO.
