IMPROVEMENT IN TOY ARROW-DISCHARGERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,891, dated September 5, 1876; application filed April 15,1876.

.To all 'whom tmay concern y Be it known that I, WESLEY W. ALGEO, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvementin Target- Arrow Dischargers 5 and I do h'ereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same,-reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speci- Atication, and to the letters and ligures of refwhich block is also provided with an elastic` string, secured at each end to the said block, which, by its recoil. will discharge an arrow or rod inserted in the perforation, as will be hereinafter more fully explained.

In the annexed drawings, the letter A des ignates apreferably elliptical wooden block,

having a perforation, a, extending through it in its long axis. This perforation, or bore,7 as it might be better called, terminates at each end in. a flaring or funnel-shaped recess, b, the object ot' which will hereinafter appear. As shown in Fig. l, the arrow-block A is provided with a handle, B, at righ-t `angles to its length, by means of which it may be held with the bore a, in a horizontal or inclined position, according to the direction or position of the target sought to be hit.

The arrow, J, which I use is a simple wooden rod, of somewhat less diameter than the bore, and preferably larger at one end than at the other. This rod is passed through bore a in block A, and its end notched upon a string,

The arrow-block being ot' some length, the arrow will be adequately guided, and may be discharged with considerable accuracy'.

What I claim as new7 and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The block A, having an axial bore, a,

with funnel-shaped ends b, and the elastic discharging-string C, substantially as specitied. l

2. The toy herein described, consisting of an oblong arrow-block, A, having a bore, a, reanied out at each end, a handle, B, a discharging-string, C, and a rod or arrow, substantially as specified.
