In the accompanying drawings a blade holder is indicated at 1 ada ted .to detachably retain a blade 2. The lade holder is shown provided with a relatively flat seat at 1a upon which the blade rests for use and along which the blade may be slid to and from shaving position, the holder being shown provided with a spring-acting retaining member 3 having its free edge spaced or positioned at a suitable distance from the seat 1a to bear against the blade. to detachably retain it upon the seat. The rear edge or the heel 2a of the blade abuts against a longitudinal stop or wall 4 on the holder when in shaving position, a space at 5 being provided between the seat and the retaining member 3, whereby the latter is suitably positioned relatively to the blade. 85 A handle 6 is attached to the blade holder 1 in any desired way. In the form shown in Figs. 1 to 5 the handle is pivotally attached to the blade holder by a pivot at 7 and the holder is pro ided with a longitudinal recess 16 in which the handle fits so that the blade holder may be turned parallel to the handle for receiving blades (Figs. 1 and 4), or may be set substantially at a right angle to the handle for shaving, (Figs. 2 and 3). In the form shown in Figs. 9 to 11 the handle is secured to the blade holder 1 in a direction substantially at right angles thereto for shaving purposes. At 8is a magazine adapted to contain a plurality or stack of blades 2. The magazine is shown in box-like form having an inner chamber or space 8a for the blades that lie flatwise, the magazine having a cover at 9 which is removable to admit the blades into the magazine. I have shown the side walls of the magazine as provided with rooves 8b in which the cover slides, (Figs. and 13). Between the cover and the blades is a spring 10 normally bearing against the blades to keep them in stacked relation. The spring illustrated is shown rovided with a fiat back portion 10a bearmg against the cover and end portions 10?; bent reversely to bear upon the blades to keep them snugged in a stack. By pulling out the cover 9 the blades and spring may be placed in the magazine and the cover may be'slid back to retain the blades. At one end the magazine has an opening or slot at to permit ejection of the endmost blade, the latter slidably resting against the outer wall 8d of the magazine. A blade I ejector or plunger is indicatedat 11 which is slidable along the wall 8d and is shown ided-in lateral grooves 11' in the side walls of the ma azine, (Figs. 7 and 13).. The inner end 0 the ejector is maintained in line with the endmost blade of the stack, opposite the spring 10, and in register with the outer opening 80, whereby when the ejector is pushed inwardly a blade will be e'ected from the magazine, (Figs. 1, 6 and 8 The ejector 11 is shown provided with a stop 1111, which may be punched out of the metal of the ejector, slidable in slot 80 in wall 8d and adapted toengage end portions of the wall 8d to limit the motion of the ejector and prevent it from being pulled from the magazine and from pushing a blade too far into the blade holder 1.' A finger piece 11b on the ejector permits ready mani ulation of the latter.

ceive the handle therebetween, and a screw 12 carried by one of said walls adapted to slid adjacent to the blade holder with the delivery opening or slot in juxtaposition to and in alignment with the end of the blade holder and with the endmost blade of the stack in such position as to slide into the holder along the seat 1a, and the magazine will be fastened to the handle b the screw 12, (Fig. 1). The ejector 11 will be drawn outwardly so that the endmost blade will be pushed by the spring 10 into position in front of the ejector and with respect to the seat 1a of the blade holder and the ejector then will be pushed inwardly, thereby sliding said blade into the blade holder between the seat 1a and the retaining member 3. As said blade slides into the blade holder it will engage a blade in the holder and push it therefrom, (Fig. 8), and at the termination of the inward stroke of the ejector the blade it is pushing will be located in the holder 1. The'blade engaging or delivery end of the ejector 11 is preferabl located atan angle to the plane of the si es of the ejector, as indicated at in Fig. 8, so'as toengage a portion of the blade at one side of its median line, thereb tending to cause the heel'of the blade to e pushed against the stop 4 of the holder 1 to guide the cutting edge of the blade in proper position for shaving. I have shown the edge 3a of retaining member 3 as angularly disposed respecting the shaving edge of the blade in the holder to aid the location of the blade in the holder as it is slid endwise thereinto, (Fig. 8).
I provide means to positively adjust the blade within the holder so that the cutting edge of the blade will be in proper shaving position. In the form shown in Figs. 1 to I provide means for automatically operating the guard and stops 13 when the holder 1 is turned from one position to edge. The spring 18 is shown in the form r of a bow-spring located in a recess 1' in the adjacent side of the holder and bearing against the member 14, (Figs. 3 and 5).
When holder 1 is turned to a position arallel with the handle to receive a bla e the spring 18 will ush the'member 14 and the stops 13 away rom blade-engaging position to permit insertion of a blade into the holder, (Figs. 1, 4 and 5), at which time the pro jections 14' on member 14 will engage the blade holder such as at the ears 16 to retain member 14 with the stops 13 away from the blade, as indicated in Fig. 5. When the blade holder has received the blade and is turned to shaving position respecting handle 6 the travel of the projection 14?) against the handle will cause tilting of member 14 toward the blade, whereby the stops 13 will engage the blade edge and member 14 and the guard will be retained in shaving'position, (Figs. 2 and 3).
In the form shown in Figs. 9 to 14 the blade magazine 8 and. the blade holder areassembled in cooperative relation for insertion of blades in the blade holder other'than by mounting the magazine upon the handle 6. In such form the ma azine 8 is provided, at one sideof the c amber or s ace 8a, with a spring-acting retainer 19 a ong one side of base 8;, shown having a curved portion 19a at its free ed e to on age a groove 1" in the back of lade ho der 1,
and with a retainer member 20 spaced on the other side of the base to enga e projection 14b of member 14 of the bla e holder, the operative edge 20a. of said member being shown curvedto receive a correspondingly curved portion 14" of rojection 146 as illustrated in Fig. 12. When a blade is to be applied in the blade holder the latter is inserted, in an inverted position, between the retainer 19 and the member20, and the engagement of said member with the projection 146 will cause the member'14 to tilt on its pivots 15 to move the stops 13 away from the blade edge. In such position of the parts of the seat 111 of blade holder 1 will be located, at one end of the holder in juxtaosition to the endmost blade of the stack in magazine 8, so that when the ejector 11 is pushed to the right in Fig. 11 the said blade will be slid from the magazine into holder 1 between the seat 1a and the member 3, discharging a blade from holder 1. The magazine is shown provided, on the side of the blade holder opposite the chamber or space 8a, with a blade-receiving chamber 21 to receive blades discharged from the blade holder, so that the discarded blades will not have to be handled by the user. hen the blade holder is removed from the magazine the spring 18 will cause the member 14 to be tilted on its pivots for engagement of the stops 13 with the blade edgetending to position the blade in the holderin the manner before described. The spring 18' in Fi s. 10 to 12, is shown inthe formof a cod spring located in the bore 6 in handle 6 j In accordance with my invention a supply of blades may be maintained in position to be inserted successively, as desired, in a safety-razor blade-holder in such a manner' that the blades need not be individually inserted' in the holder 1 by the user. When the magazine is empty a supply of blades may be inserted therein w1thout requirement for further handling of the blades. An advantage of my invention is that the magazine for blades and the blade holder may be assembled in cooperative relation for insertion of a blade in the holder 1 without requiring the magazine or stack of blades to be maintained upon or in connection with the razor when the latter is to be used for shaving, since the magazine and the blade holder may be so arated for use. By the means described the stack of blades will not be subjected to wetting when the blade holder is washed, thereby avoiding rusting of the blades.
While I have illustrated and described a particular embodiment of my invention the details of construction and arrangement of parts set forth may be varied, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit 0t my invention.
Having now described my invention what I claim is 1. A safety razor comprising a blade holder, a magazine for blades, means to detachably retain the magazine in cooperative relationto the blade holder for inserting a blade into the holder from the magazine,
the blade holder being provided with a movable member having stops to engage the edge of the blade for locating the latter in shaving position in the holder, and means to retain the stops against the blade for shaving. v
2. A safety razor as set forth in claim 1, said movable-member being provided with a guard for the blade edge.
3. A safety razor comprising a blade holder, a handle pivotally connected therewith, a magazine for blades, and means for detachably supporting the magazine on the outside of the handle'in juxtaposition to the blade holder, whereby the latter may receive blades from the magazine the magazine being removable from the handle to permit the latter to be grasped for shaving.
4. A safety razor as set forth in claim 3, in which the magazine is provided with an ejector for inserting blades into the holder from the magazine.
5. A safety razor comprising a blade holder, a magazine, and means to retain the magazine in blade delivery relation to the holder, the magazine bein provided with an ejector for inserting bla es into the holder from the magazine, the blade-engaging end of the ejector bein located at an angle to the plane of the sides of the ejector to engage a portion of the blade at the cutting side of its median line for pushing the blade into proper position in the blade holder. I
6. A safety razor comprising a blade holder, a handle pivotally connected therewith, a magazine for blades, and means for detachably supporting the magazine on the outside of the handle in juxtaposition to the blade holder, whereby the latter may receive blades from the magazine, the handle being provided with grooves and the magazine being provided with projections slidable in the grooves for positioning the magazine in juxtaposition to an end of the blade holder, and means to detachably secure the magazine on the handle.
7. A safety razor comprising a blade holder,,a detachable magazine for blades rovided with a delivery opening for the blades, an ejector slidable in the magazine to push blades through said opening, and means to movably retain the blade holder in juxtaposition to the outlet of the magazine 'for receiving blades therefrom the mag azine being removable from the handle to permit the latter to be gras ed for shaving.
8. A safety razor as set orth in claim 7, in which the magazine is provided with a detachable cover, and a spring between the cover and the blades in the magazine, the magazine having a Wall opposing the blades adjacent to the ejector.
9. A safety razor as set forth in claim 7, in which the magazine is provided with a detachable cover, and a spring between the cover and the blades in the magazine,the magazine having a wall opposing the blades adjacent to the ejector, said wall being provided with a slot, the ejector having a projection operable in the slot to limit motion of the ejector.
10. A safet razor comprising a blade holder, a ban le pivotally connected therewith, the handle being provided with external longitudinal grooves, a magazine for blades provided with an ejector for the blades slidable in the magazine, the magazine being provided with spaced projecting walls receiving the handle therebetween,
said walls being provided with projections slidable in said external grooves, whereby the magazine may be retained on the handle in position for delivery of blades to the holder, and means to detachably secure the magazine upon the handle the magazine being removable from the handle to permit the latter to be grasped for shaving.
11. A safety razor comprising a blade holder, a handle pivotally connected thereto, and a member pivotally carried by the blade holder and provided with stops to engage the blade, said member and handle being provided with cooperative parts to cause the stops to engage the blade when the blade holder is in shaving position at an angle to the handle and to cause the member torelease the stops when the blade holder and handle are substantially parallel to one another.
12. A safety razor as set forth in claim 11, provided with a spring between the blade holder and the member for retaining the stops out of engagement with the blade when the blade holder and handle are out of shaving relation.
13. A safety razor as set forth in claim 11, provided with a spring between the blade holder and the member for retaining the stops out of engagement with the blade when the blade holder and handle are out of shaving relation, the member being provided with one or more projections to engage the holder to retain the stops away from the blade when the holder is out of shaving position respecting the handle.
14. A safety razor comprising a blade holder prnvided with a seat for a blade, a member spaced from the seat and opposing the bladeto slidably receive the blade between the seat and the member. a member having stops to engage .the blade to locate it in shaving position upon the seat, and means to removably retain the stops in cooperation with the blade. o
15. A safety razor comprising a blade holder provided with a seat for a blade, a clamping element spaced from the seat and opposing the blade to slidably receive the blade between the seat and said element, a member having stops to engage the blade to locate it in shaving position upon the seat, and means to removably retain the stops in cooperation with the blade, the holder having a stop adjacent to the seat to oppose the heel of the blade, the member having a guard in shaving relation to the blade edge when the stops engage the blade.
16. A magazine for razor blades provided with a chamber to receive the blades and having a delivery outlet for the blades, said magazine having a resilient retainer and a member spaced therefrom to detachably receive and hold a razor therebetween for retaining it temporarily in juxtaposition to the said outlet, whereby blades may be pushed from the chamber into the razor.
17 A magazine for razor blades provided with a chamber to receive the blades and having a delivery outlet for the blades, said magazine having retainer means to detachably receive a razor for retaining it temporarily in juxtaposition to the said outlet, whereby blades may be pushed from the chamber into the razor, said magazine being provided with a blade receiving chamber spaced from the first named chamber to receive blades ejected from the razor.
18. A magazine for safety razor blades provided with a chamber to receive the blades and having a delivery outlet for the blades, said magazine having spaced retainer members to receive a safety razor for retaining it in juxtaposition to the said outlet, whereby blades may be pushed from the chamber into the razor, a safety razor provided with a pivotally supported member having stops to engage a blade edge, and a spring normally operating the member to engage the stops with the blade, one of the first named members being cooperative with the last named member to retain the stops out of engagement with the blade when the blade holder is between the first named members in position to receive a blade from the magazine.
19. Razor equipment comprising a magazine for razor blades, means to hold a razor head in fixed relation to said magazine, an
ejector slidable in a wall of said magazine and adapted to transfer a blade from said magazine to a razor head held by said means, and a receptacle to receive used blades, said receptacle being connected with said magazine and positioned with respect to the razor head holding means, whereby the used blade is deposit-ed in said receptacle during the transfer of a 'new blade from said magazine to said razor head.
20. Razor equipment comprising a magazine for razor blades, means to hold a razor head in fixed relation to said magazine, means to transfer a blade from said magazine to said razor head, and a receptacle to receive used blades, said receptacle being connected with said magazine and positioned with respect to the razor head holding means, whereby the used blade is deposited in said receptacle during the transfer of a new blade from said magazine to said razor head.
21. A device of the class described, comprising a magazine adapted to contain a stack of sharp blades, a shaving head adapted to receive and retain in shaving position blades successively fed from said stack, means for mechanically feeding successive blades to the head, in combination with a re ceiving easing into which a used blade is ejected in the act of feeding each fresh blade to the shaving head, cooperating means to maintain said magazine head and casing in alignment during said feeding and ejecting operatlon.
22. A razor having a blade receiving head, movable means on said head adapted to engage a portion of a blade when in said razor, means to normally urge said movable means into engagement with the blade, in combination with a magazine for blades, means to guide said head and magazine into alignment, means on said magazine to hold the movable means out of engagement with a blade in said head when said magazine and head are in alignment.
23. A magazine for razor blades, said magazine having a chamber for blades and a delivery outlet for the blades, an ejector for the blades, in combination with a razor, cooperating guiding means on said magazine and on said razor to guide either said razor or said magazine bodily into alignment with each other and retain them in alignment while a blade is being ejected directly from said chamber into the razor, movable means on said razor adapted to normally engage a portion of a blade when in said razor, and
means on said magazine to hold said movable means out of engagement with a blade when said razor is in alignment with said magazine.
24. In razor equipment for the transfer of razor blades, a magazine for blades, said magazine having an exit aperture, transfer means for blades, in combination with a razor head, cooperating guiding means on said magazine and on said head whereby either said magazine or said head may be moved and guided bodily into juxtaposed longitudinal alignment, said guiding means including transverse surfaces to retain said head and magazine in juxtaposed relation.
25. In shaving equipment, a razor, said razor having a head, said head being provided with a blade receiving portion, ejecting means for a blade, in combination with receiving means for an ejected blade, means on said head and on said receiving means to guide either said head or said receiving means into alignment with each other and maintain them in alignment during the ejection of a blade from said razor into said receiving means.
26. A safety razor comprising a blade holder having a blade supporting surface, a blade magazine having a discharge opening, means for detachably supporting said magazine on the exterior of said holder with its discharge opening in alignment with the blade supporting surface of said holder, and an ejector mounted on said magazine adapted to feed a blade therefrom onto the blade supporting surface of said holder when said magazine is positioned on the latter.
27. A safety razor comprising a blade receiving head, a magazine for the blades, means for feeding a blade from the magazine onto said head, movable means on said head adapted to engage and position a blade when on said head, means to normally urge said movable means into engagement with the blade, and means on said magazine to hold the movable means out of engagement with a blade on said head when the latter is in blade receiving position in relation to said magazine.
