In constructing my invention I utilize a suitable chamber in which a float is mounted,

In Fig. 1 a boiler is designated generally by the numeral 11, There is a float chamber 12 formed with a base 13 and a dome 14, the dome being connected to a steam pipe 15 attached by a fitting 16 to the top of the boiler preferably adjacent the steam dome. base is'connected by a nipple 17 to a journal fitting designated generally by the numeral 18. To the lower end of the fitting there is a pipe 19 connected to the boiler adjacent the bottom to carry water. In the float chamber there is a float 20 having a rod 21 extending downwardly therefrom This rod is adjustably connected to one arm 22 of a fulcrum lever 23. This attachment may be in any suitable manner.
The fitting 18 is formed with a cross fitting 24 to which the pipe 19 is connected and has a pipe 25 connected thereto and threaded into the cylindrical end 20 of an attachment 27. This attachment has partition 28 therethrough with a threaded opening 29 and has a journal plug 30 threaded therein. This plug has a bore 3.1 flared at 32 and is closed bya plug 33. Transversely of this plug there is a cylindrical bore having an enlarged threaded section 35 for a packing gland 36 which compresses the packing 37 against the fulcrum shaft 38 of the fulcruz'n lever 23. It will, therefore, be seen that the arm 22 of I this lever connects to the side of the fulcrum shaft 38 outside of the packing}: gland 36. The other arm 39 of this lever is connected to the opposite end ofthe shaft 38 and operates in the flared section 32 of the plug.
The valve end 40 of the attachment 27 has a pipe 41 connected thereto leading to the boiler to carry the feed water. At the top there is a tubular section 42 having a valve seat 43 and surrounding this seat there is a tubular structure 44 having a closed top 45 and with slots or ports 46 ther through. This may have a pressed fit on the structure 42. The T-fi ting 47 is threaded on the tubular structure forming a space 48 between the T and the tubular structiu'e 44. The upper end 0 the T is closed by a plug 49 and fron the stem there is a pipe 50 leading to a feed Water pressure trated.
The valve construction comprises a main valve element 51 having a surface 52 to engage the seat and with a cylindrical sur face 53 having a sliding (it in the tube 44, but not being sufliciently tight to prevent pump, this not being illus- The leakage of Water past the cylindrical surface. This element 51 has central bore 54, with a Valve seat 55 at the top. A secondary valve element 56 has its lower end seated on the seat 55 and this has a sliding lit in the inner chamber '57 in the top 45. This secondary element also has a bore 58 therethrough and hasa valve plug 59 forn'iing a closure on the top, this closure having a depending pin 60. This pin is adapted to be engaged by the stem 61 of the valve rod 62 which is connected to the arm 39 of the fulcrum lever 23 by a pivotal connection T he rod has a collar 64 thereon.

The operation and construction of my regulator is substantially as follows, dealing with the action under the influence of hydraulic fluid under pressure: The pressure in the feedpipe is as a rule greater than that in the boiler by an appreciable amount, and on account of there being freedom for the passage of water from the supply outsideof the main valve elementand to the inner chamber 57 there is a greater pressure on top of the valve plugv59 than in the pipe 41, hen the level of the water in the boiler drops the valve operating rod 62 is raised. and the stem 61 engages the pin 60 unseating the plug This may beunseated before the stem 61 contacts with the lower edge of the secondary valve element The raising of the plug 59 allows an equalization of the pressure between the inner chamber 57 and the pipe 41.
This results in there being a greater pressure in the tubular structure 44 above the main valve element than in the inner chamber 57 and this greater pressure acting on the lower end or" the secondary valve element causes a lifting of such element. This action may take place even if the cross sectional area of the secondary valve element subjected to the pressure of the supply fluid is less than the area of the'top of element 56.
Thus when the secondary element is raised by the hydraulic pressure it allows an equalization of pressure between the tubular structure 44 above the main valve element and the pipe 41. As the lower surface of the major portion of the main valve element is subjected tothe pressureof the supply fluid, and this the secondary valve top surface exposed to a lesser pressure. The
hydraulic pressure,therefore, lifts the main valve element 51 without the collar 64 contacting therewith andallows a free fiowof water through the ports 46 into the pipe 41 leading to the boiler. I v y In all this action, due to the hydraulic pressure of water, the stem 61 of the valve rod 62 need not contact with the lower end of the secondary valve element 56, nor need the collar 64' contact with the lower end of the main valve element 51. It will, therefore, be seen that my construction is sensitive to changes of water level and the Weight to be lifted bythe valve rod 62 is very small. As shown in Fig. 5, when the main and secondary valve elements are elevated to their full extent by the hydraulic pressure the valve plug 59 contacts with'the upper end of the inner chamber 57 and thus limits the upward movement of the rod 62.
If for any reason the valves should stick, the operation will be as follows: The rod 62 through the medium of the stem 61 raises the pin 60 and unseats the plug 59 on the 'iewering of the water level in the boiler thereby allowing equalization of pressure between the chamber 57 and the pipe 41 then should the secondary valve element 56 claim 1, the Water level control comprising a nected to the first upward movement engaging lifting the plug then lifting the secondary stick the stem 61 engaging the lower end of this element thrusts it upwardly allowing equalization of pressure between the tubular member 44; above the main valve element and the pipe ll. 1. In boiler feed regulator a main tubular valve element forming a closure between a source of liquid under pressure and the boiler, a secondary tubular valve element seated thereon, valve plug having a depending pin seated on thesecondary element, a slidable stem extending upwardly in the main element and having a collar thereon, said stem being operated by means controlled by the water level in the boiler, the stem on its the pin and element, and finally the collar lifting the main valve element. 2. A bo1ler feed regulator comprising in combmatron a structure forming a float chamber having its lower part connected to the water of theboiler and the upper part connected to the steam of theboiler, a float rod, a fitting connected to the said structure and having apartition with a closure plug therein, said plug having a central bore with transverse boreintersecting, the transverse bore having a packing gland with packing and' 'forminga journal for 'a'fulcrum shaft, a fulcrul-nlever having one end connected .mountedtherein and "having a depending "30 to'the said shaftoutside of the plug and to the said red, the other end of the fulcrum lever being connected lo the shaft in- -the bore of the plug, a tubular valve structure having a closure element seatedthereon, form-ingn closure between a source of liquid under pressure and the boiler, a rodhaving a stem operatively connected to the end-of the fulcrum lever fitted in the bore of the plug, said ste ni being adapted to elevate thevalve element to allow fl'ow ofliquid. v

A boiler feed regulator as claimed inv claim 3, in addition a tubular structure the valve forming a guide for the main valve element and having ports therethrough,'an inner tube in the top of said structure, 'and j a secondary valve element sl idabl'e therein, the stem extending througl r I gagement with the first element, the valve plug having a depending pin forming a clothe main element and being adapted toengage the Sitldsecondary element" prior to r en'- the means operated by the water level of the boiler to open the said closure and afford a connection through the second valve element, said second element having means un der the influence of the hydraulic pressure to become unseated and to allow equalization of pressure in the chamber above the first valve element and a connection to the boiler.
7. A boiler feed regulator as claimed in claim 6, the main valve element on its lower surface having a face exposed to the hydraulic pressure of the source and lifting from its seat when the pressure in the chamber above said main element is reduced.
8. In a boiler feed regulator a fitting having a valve seat with a tubular structure extending upwardly outside of the seat and having a closure with ports through said structure, a connection from the upper side of the seat to a source of liquid under pressure and from the fitting to a boiler, a tubular main valve element bearing on the seat and slidable in thetubular structure, a secondary valve element seated thereon, a stem operatively connected to a float operated by the water level of the boiler, said stein extending upwardly through the main element and being adapted to first lift the secondary element and then the main element, an inner chamber in the top of the tubular structure and forming a guide for the secondary valve element, a closure plug for said secondary element having a depending pin adaptedto be first enga ed by the said stem, and a meanson the stem to engage the main valve element.

A boiler feed regulator comprising in combination a structure forming a float chamber with a connection to the water and to the steam of the boiler, a float therein, a fitting having a water tight journal with a fulcrum shaft mounted therein, a fulcrum lever connected to said shaft and to the float, a tubular valve structure having a reciproeating valve rod with a stem operatively connected to the fulcrum lever to be recipro cated by said lever, and avalve forming a closure between a source of liquid under pressure and the boiler, said valve being operated by the said stem, the said fitting having a journal plug with a transverse bore, and a packing gland with packin forming the ournal for the fulcrum shaft, one end of the fulcrum lever being connected to said shaft outside of the plug and the other end to the shaft inside of the plug.
