IMPROVEMENT IN LAND-ROLLERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,734, dated August 29, 18%; application filed March 18, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ELEAZER. SMITH, of Greene, in the county of Butler and State of Iowa, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Ground-Roller; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figurel of the drawings is a representation of a plan view of my roller, and Fig. 2'is a front elevation of the same.

This invention has relation to ground-rollers; and the nature of my invention consists in a flexible rectangular frame, each section of which is provided with a roller, as will be hereinafter explained.

In the annexed drawings, A A designate two sections, which are jointed together at a a, constituting a flexible rectangular frame, to which animals may be hitched in any suitable manner. B B designate rollers, one of which is applied to the-front part of the jointed frame, and the other is applied to the rear part of this frame. The shafts or gudgeons of the rollers B'B, have their bearings in the flexible frame, and also in brackets b b, which are secured to this frame.

' The roller-frame is flexible-that is to say, the two sections are jointed in such manner that the rollers B B will accommodate themselves to the surface of the ground over which they are drawn.

It will be observed that the joints of the roller-frame are arranged near the front and rear corners of this fram'e--that is to say, the joints .a a are in a line which is diagonal to the A. S. Skiff, dated May 1, 1866, No. 54,425;

and I therefore lay no claim to such construction, broadly.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by. Letters Patent, is

In' a ground-ro1ler, the flexible rectangular frame,-composed of sections A A jointed near the front and rear corners of said frame, the line connecting thejoints being diagonal to the line of draft, and no central bar being employed, in combination with rollers B B, applied substantially as described.
