IMPROVEMENT lN RdAD-SCRAPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,730, dated August 29, 1876; application filed July 1, 1876.

Be it known that I, ADDISON SHANKLIN, of London, in the county of Madison and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Road-Scraper, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section on line 00 00, Fig. 2, of my improved road-scraper, and Fig. 2 is a sectional front view of the same.

My invention has reference to such improvements in road-scrapers that the handles may the handles by sliding spring-bolts G, which are set into sockets D, bolted to the rear part of the scraper. .The bolts G are screw-threaded, and made adjustable by means of square nuts a, that are prevented from turning by the square grooves b of the sockets D.
The bolts 0 may be lengthened, to provide for the wearing ofl' at the ends, by turning the spring bolts or pins, keeping thus the lockingbolts always intact for use, and producing the reliable working of the same. The bolts 0 also pass through perforations of the grabpieces or spurs, and are guided by the same, so as to work more freely. The bolts 0 look into socket-castings E at the side of the handle, which sockets are recessed or slotted at the ends and sides, the up'perpart of the socket being made to project over the lower part, so as to prevent the handles from passing over the bolts until, by sliding forward, they are allowed to escape by means of the wider end recesses, and produce the revolution of the scraper.
The bolts pass readily over the lower parts of the sockets into the slots to lockthe bowl to the handles, when the revolution of the same has been completed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. As an improvement in road-scrapers, the combination of the sliding spring-bolts, made adjustable in the guide-sockets of the bowl, with the recessed and slotted locking-sockets of the handles, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. A scraper-bowl, having sockets with square guide-grooves, and threaded springbolts with screw-nuts turning thereon, to set the bolts to proper length after being worn, substantially as specified.
