At the center of the dial thus formed is a disc 23 through which extends the spindles 24 of a clock-works mechanism 25, secured in any suitable manner to the interior of the shade, and actuating hands 2627, respectively minute and hour, which operate over the dial.

In order to maintain the shade in equilibrium a counterweight 28 may be attached to the interior of the shade at a point opposite the clock.

It will be obvious that the ring 12 may be applied directly to a naked bulb in case the chimney is not required, and that other IIIOCll iications and changes may be made within the scope of the appended claims and which do not require the exercise of invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. The combination of a clock having an outwardly flanged translucent dial over which the clock hands travel, said dial constituting an integral partof an annulus, a lamp, and means on said annulus to engage sai d lamp circumjacently whereby light may pass through said dial.

2. The combination with a clock-works mechanism, a conical annulus carrying said mechanism, a transparent dial integrally formed on said annulus relative to said mechanism, and means to engage said annulus to surround a lamp so that light therefrom may pass through said dial.

3. In combination with a lamp shade, of a clock-works fixed to the inner surface of said shade, and a dial for said clock-works integral with the shade, said dial being translucent and extending circumjacently beyond the space occupied by said clock-works.

4. In combination with a lamp shade, of a clock-works fixed to the inner surface of said shade, and a dial for said clock-works integral with the shade, said dial being translucent and extending circumjacently beyond the space occupied by said clock-works and a counterbalance for said clock-works fixed to said shade.

5. In combination with a conical shade for a portable lamp, of a clock-works fixed within said shade on one side, a counterbalance on the opposite side, a transparent panel in said shade to register with said clock-works, a clock dial inscribed on said panel, said panel being of greater diameter than said clockworks, and hands actuated over said dial by said clock-works.
