Patented July J7, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE MICHAEL vAcoARo, or PORT CHESTER, NEW YORK STORAGE BATTERY 'JJIElItltIIll'AI CONNQTER `Application led August 21, 1929. Serial No. 387,502.
'Ihis invention relates to an improved connecter or clamp for use yin association withl able for. effectively maintaining a conduc-l tor wire safely and properly on the battery post.
The particular details will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawings In the drawings Figure 1 is a fragmentary top plan view of a portion of a batterywith the improved connecter associated with the post.
Fig. 2 is an end view of one of the parts of the connecter.
Fig. 3 is across section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a view of one of the details.
Fig. 5 is a detail section on the line 5-5 of Flg. 1.
In Fig. 1, the reference character 6 designates'an ordinary storage battery Vand 7 the usual tapered post. The connecter Y comprises two parts, one of which includes a ring 8 which embraces the post and carries a screw threaded stud 9 to accommodate a retaining nut 10. The otherpart comprises i a longitudinally bowed binding member which is of channel-shaped cross section as generally indicated by the reference chal',- acter 11. This is of .a proportion to cause the top and bottom anges 12 to straddle the ring 9 and to bear against the post 7.'
The inner edges 13 are of curvate con- 40 The web portion of vthe channel is formed 1 with an aperture 14 to permit passage of the screw threaded stud 9. Formed integral lwith the part 11 is a socket 15 in which the conductor wire 16 is mounted. l
IVith this arrangement, 'by tightening the nut '10. on the stud 9, the 4channel-shaped part 11`will be bound firmly against the post 7 whereby to-slmultaneously secure both parts of the clamp to the 5 post. The simplicity of the invention is .I
figuration to bear firmly against the post.,y
it is obvious that' such as to make it unnecessary to enter into a more detailed description. In fact, it is thought that the features and advantages of the cpnstruction will be quite evident after considering the description in connec. 55 tion with the drawings.` Consequently a more specific description is regarded as unnecessary.
Minor changes in` shape, size, and rearrangement of details, coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to in actual practice if desired.
Having thus described my invention,
vwhat I claim as new is\:
1.*As a new product of manufacture, a
connecter including a longitudinally bowed channel-shaped member having its ianges formed with curvature edge portions co-operable with 'a battery post, and a socket at' one end of said channel-shaped member adapted for anchorage of a conductor.
2. As a new .product of manu-facture, a connecter includlng a longitudinally bowed channel-shaped member having its fianges formed withcurvate and portions co-operating with the battery post, and a socket at one end of vsaid channel shaped member adapted for anchorage of a conductor, a ring shaped batteryV post embracing member, having a threaded stud, the web of said channel member being. apertured to permit of such'being projected therethrough and beyond saidv rim, a clamp not cooperating with said threaded nut to effect the drawing together of the battery post and said curvate edge portions of the channel member in relatively immovable relationshi Ilii testimony whereof I aix my signature.
