ATTORNEY.
Patented July 7, 1931 UNITED STATES ALEXANDER GIBSON, F OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA BARBER/S LATHERIN'G DEVICE Application filed April 13,
The invention is for a lathering pad for lathering the face preparatory to shaving.
An object of the invention is the provision of such a device that will combine means for r softening and moistening the skin of the face while simultaneously applying a shaving lather thereto.
A further object is to provide a device of the character indicated that will be small, .compact and one that can be readily and easily carried when traveling or be supplied to barber shops at such a loW cost that each patron of the shop may have his face lathered therewith and the lathering pad discarded after being used but once, thus guarding against infection by the use of the shaving brush used for lathering the faces of other patrons of the shop.
A still further object is to provide a device of the character indicated of such a nature that it may be readily packed within cartons by the manufacturer thereof for shipment.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure l is a perspective view of the shaving pad showing a small square cake of shaving soap secured therein,
Figure 2 is a cross sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary plan view showing the cake of shaving soap in circular form.
Figure 4 is a cross sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring to the reference characters, reference character 5 indicates a pad of any suitable fabric having a relatively long nap 5 6 and a relatively small cake of shaving soap 7 imbedded in the nap. The soap 7 may be secured to the foundation of the fabric by removing therefrom the nap 6 and exposing the foundation of the fabric in a space commensurate with the dimensions and contour 1929. Serial No. 354,793.
of the shaving soap to be aflixed thereto. The affixing of the soap to the foundation of the fabric may be accomplished in any suitable way, preferably by inserting a form within the space from which the nap has been removed and then pouring a fluid soap into the form and permitting the fluid soap to harden therein when the form may be removed and the pile of the fabric allowed to close in upon the sides of the body of the hardened soap, the body of the soap being of sufficient size to provide a lather suflicient for but one shave. While there has been shown but one piece of soap afiixed to the pad of fabric, it will be understood, of course, that any number of pieces of soap found desirable may be aflixed to the pad as heretofore indicated and the pad formed into any desired shape, such as a star, a leaf, a circle, etc. When it is desired to use the pad for lathering and softening the skin of the face, the pad may be dipped into water, preferably relatively hot, until it has been thoroughly soaked and then rubbed briskly over the face with a movement similar to the movement of a shaving brush over the face for forming a lather, or the skin of the face may be first softened with Water, preferably Warm, and the dry pad applied to the face in the manner above set forth for the production of a lather.
The advantages of the invention will be readily apparent.
Having thus explained the nature of the invention and described an operative man ner of constructing and using the same, although without attempting .to set forth all of the forms in which it may be made, or all the forms of its use, What is claimed is: r
1. A fabric pad having a pile, a cake of soap embedded therein and affixed to the fabric.
2. A fabric pad having a base, a pile extending from the base, a cake of soap embedded Within the pile and affixed to the fabric base. A V
3. A fabric having a loose uncut pile and a lathering medium attached to one surface 5 thereof.
V 4:. A pile fabric having attached to one surface a piece of soap. i 5. A piece of Turkish toweling having af fixed to one surface thereof a small cake of 10 soap. A i i 6. A section of Turkish toweling provided With alatherting medium 'attached to one surface thereof.
In testimony whereof I have aifixed' my 15 signature.
ALEXANDER ee-B son."
