UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JESSE BEBN'ICE BOUSE, OI DUNN, NORTH CAROIIIITA.
ACCELERATOR HEAT PROTECTOR Application filed July 28, 1930. Serial No. 471,286.
Another object of my invention is the con-.
structon of a simple and eificient rubber cap or cover for the head of an accelerator, whereby heat is not imparted to the shoe or foot of the operator. 4
With the foregoing and other objects in .view, my invention com rises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompan mg drawings, and more particularly pointe out in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with the present in-v vention. g V
F lgure 2 1s a sectlonal vlew taken on line 2-2, Figure 1, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a sectional-view taken on line 3-3, Figure 2, and looking in the direction of the arrows. y
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 is the accelerator head (dotted lines Fig. 2) and 2 is the stem thereof, upon which my device 3 is placed.
, The device 3 is preferably formed of rubber and comprises a body 4 having parallel upstanding ribs 5 on its upper face. The body 4 is-h'ollowed out and has on its bottom an inwardly extending annular flange 6. In the sides of the body 4 are a luralit of ventilating openings 7. In the ody 4 1s a central depending lug 8 and a plurality of depending tits 9, which tits are of the same length as lug 8, so that the lower ends of said tits and lug bear upon the top of the head 1, spacing the upper rib-carryin part of body 4 from the metal accelerator ead. This gives room for air to circulate, throu h ventilating openings 7, over the top of sai head, thereby cool ing the head and preventing the device 3 from the shoe or foot of the operator cool and comfortable. The tits9 are distributed around I the central lug 8 so that pressure upon the ribbed top will be evenly distributed upon the metallic accelerator head 1, thereby increasing the. life of the device by having it worn evenly'throughout.
The device will easily slip over a head 1 and will be securely fastened thereon by flange 6 without any other fastening means.
I have found from practical experience with a working model that my ventilated rubber cap is eflicient and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of myinvention andillustrated the .same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations ma appear to 7 one skilled inthe art to which this invention relates, during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or alterations as shallfall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is As a new article of manufacture, a pedal cap formed from a single piece-of rubber and comprising a body having ribs on its upper face and hollowed outwithinand with'an annularly inwardly extending flange on its bottom, said ribs formin spaces therebetween; open at their ends said ody provided in its sides with ventilating o nin s opening upon the hollow interior of t e b y, and'a central depending lug and depending tits within said hollow body, constitutin pacing means,
substantially as shown an described.
In testimony whereof I- hereunto aflix my signature; I
' JESSE BERNICE RQUSE.
