IMPROVEMENT IN FRAMES FOR FAMILY RECORDS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,008, dated August 15, 1876; application filed J une 6, 1876.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEMUEL PATTERSON, of Parker City, in the county of Armstrong and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful- Improvements in Sectional Frame for Family Record; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to .which it pertains to make and useit, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification.

My invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a-sectional frame for family record, as. will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In the annexed drawing, which fully illustrates my invention, A represents the top section of the frame, formed with a large center space, E, for the insertion of the marriage certificate. On each side of the space B is a space, 0, which two side spaces are to contain the pictures of the husband and wife. The

- section A is made rounded upward in the center with a molding, a, along the entire upper edge, and a carved ornament, b, in the center, on top, as shown. Around the spaces B and C are suitable moldings d.

Along the lower edge of the section A, on the front side, is a molding, f, and on the back of said section, also along the lower edge, is a bar, D, said molding and bar projecting below the edge of the section, leaving a space between them.

The upper edge of the bar D is rabbeted, and from the same extend vertical bars E E fastened to the back of the frame, and also rabbeted to hold the pictures and the glass plates covering the same when such are used.

A is the lower section of the frame. It is provided at the bottom edge with front molding f and rear bar D, forming a groove between them in the same manner as detailed for the upper section. This section A has three openings or spaces, 0, to contain pictures of the children in the family, and on the back are vertical rabbeted bars E, to hold such pictures and glass plates. Two or more of these bars E are extended above the sec tion A in the form of tapering tenons h h, which are inserted in mortises i made in the bar D of the top section. By pressing the sections together, the upper edge of the lower section will enter in the space between the molding fand bar D at the lower edge of the upper section, and be retained there by the friction of the parts.

When necessary, more sections may be added by inserting them in a similar manner in the groove formed in the lower edge of the previous section. Such spaces as are not needed in the sections A are fitted with ornamental blocks G, which can easily be removed and put in as required.

This sectional family-record frame may be made more or less ornamented, as desired.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. As a new article of manufacture, a frame for exhibiting family record and pictures, consisting of two or more detachable sections, united edge to edge by means of grooves, mortises, and tenons, substantially as described and shown.

2. The frame A, provided with openings B 0, strips f, rabbeted bars D E, and mortises t, in combination with one or more detachable sections, A, having strips f, rabbeted bars D E, and tenons h, substantially as set forth.
