Patented June 9, 1931 UNITED STATES GEORGE E. NAGEL, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO CONCRETE FENCE POST Application filed February 2, 1931. Serial No. 513,015.
This invention relates to a concrete post for wire fences and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a post of the class referredito whereby'the fence can be anchored thereto without the V employing of twisted tie wires arranged in encompassing position with respect to the post.
A further ob ect of the lnven'tion is to provide a concrete fence post, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, whereby the fence can the fence anchored thereto.
be anchored to each side thereof without the employment of twisted tie wires encompassing the post.
A further object of the invention is to provide, ina manner as hereinafter set forth, a concrete fence post so constructed and arranged for supporting anchors for the post and whereby the anchors can be disposed for anchoring the fence alternately "from one side of the post to the other.
A further object of the invention is t provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a concrete fence post so constructed to enable a section of the fence to be coupled therewith by nail ties in a manner to prevent hogs from sliding the fence section upwardly on the 90st. 1 A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth a concerete fence post so constructed as to enable a fence section to be coupled thereto without marring the appearance thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide, in'a manner as hereinafter set forth,a concrete fence post so constructed as to enable a fence section to be securely anchored thereto by alternately ,disposednail ties Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth a concrete fence post which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, reinforced, thoroughly efficient in its use, capable of having the fence secured to one or both sides thereof, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture. I
With the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically'de' scribed and illustrated in the accompanying I drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understoodthat changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended. V
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure l is an elevation of a fence post in accordance with this invention and showing Figure 2is' a fragmentary view in longitudinal section of a fence post in accordance with this invention.
Figure 3 is a section on line 33, Figure 2. Figure 4 is a section on line 44, Figure 2. The post comprises i a reinforced concrete body 1 of the desired length and said body 1 is formed of a rectangular part Qand a substantially triangular part3. That part of the post against which the fence wires 40ppose is termed the front face thereo-f and is squared as at5, the rear face of the post is rounded as at 6,0ne side of the post includes an inclined portion 7 and a squared portion 8, and thefother side of'the post includes an inclined portion 9 and a squared portionlO. The inclined portions 7 and 9 extend in opposite directions and merge into the squared portions 8, 10 respectively; The inclined portions 7, 9 merge intothe rounded rear face 6. I11 cross sections the inclined portions are of greater length than'the squared portions 8, l0 androunded'rear face 6. The squared front face 5 is the outer side of the rectangular'part 2 and is of greater length 7 than the inclined portions 7, 9. The squared portions 8,10 are theends of the rectangular,
part 2. Theinclined portion's'i', 9 are the sides of the triangular part 3 and the rounded rear face 6 is the smallerend or apex of the-triangular part The body I has squared ends and is uniformthroughout.
The rectangularpartQ .is formed with lengthwise extending, spaced, parallel open ings' 11 for the passage of nail ties 23, and which can be alternately disposed if desired. Theopenings 11 are positioned in close proximity to the point of mergence of the part 2 with the part 3.
Embedded in body 1 at desired intervals are metallic spacer members 18 each including a base 14- formed with a central opening 15 and a pair of oppositely inclined elongated slots 16 adjacent the sides of opening 15, a pair of oppositely inclined. arms 17 and laterally disposed oppositely extending, curved apertured extensions 18 on the free ends of the arms 16. The base 14 is embedded in the part 3, the arms extend through part 3 from base 14 and the extensions 18 are arranged in parts 2 and The apertures in the extensions are indicated at 18. The openings 15 and apertures 18 of the spacer members are arranged in alignment. The slots 16 provide ties for the members 123 when the latter are embedded in body 1.
Reinforcing bars are embedded in body 1 and they extend from a point in proximity to one end and to a. point in proximity to the other end of body 1. The bars are indicated at19, 20, and 21. The bars 19, 20 are of circular cross section and the bar 21 of polygonal cross section. The bar 19 extends through one set of aligning openings 18. The bar 20 extends through the other set of aligning openings 18. The bar 2-1 ex tends through the aligning openings 15. The members 13 maintain the bars in spaced relation.
The heads 22 of the nail ties 23 preferably will alternately abut the squared portions 8, 10 and the shanks 23 of the ties are extended from the sides of the post, bent to abut the portions 8, 10, and twisted around the fence wires 4, as at 2-1, and by this arrangement alternate fence wires 1 are anchored to alternate sides of the post.
What I claim is:
1. In wire fence construction, a'fence post having superposed spaced openings parallel to the front face thereof, fence wire coupling elements, each of said elementsincluding a head and a shank formed of a pair of parts disposed at right angles to each other, one of said parts being of greater length than the other, the said other part being looped at its free end for encompassing a fence wire, each of said heads abutting a side of the post, said elongated parts mounted in said openings and said other parts abutting a side of the post and extending towards and having the looped ends thereof arranged beyond said front for anchoring fence wires against the latter.
2. In wire fence construction, a fence post having superposed spaced openings parallel to the front face thereof, fence wire coupling elements, each of said elements including a head and a shank formed of a pair of parts disposed at right angles to each other, one of said parts being of greater length than the other, the said other part being looped at its free end for encompassing a fence wire, each of said heads abutting a side of the post, said elongated parts mounted in said openings and said other parts abutting a side of the post and extending towards and having the looped ends thereof arranged beyond said front for anchoring fence wires against the latter, said elements being alternately disposed with respect to each other.
3. In wire fence construction, a fence post having superposed spaced openings parallel to the front face thereof, fence wire coupling elements, each of said elements including a head and a shank formed of a pair of parts disposed at right angles to each other, one of said parts being of greater length than the other, the said other part being looped at its free end for encompassing a fence wire, each of said heads abutting a side of the post, said elongated parts mounted in said openings and said other parts abutting a side of the post and extendingtowards and having the looped ends thereof arranged beyond said front for anchoring fence wires against the latter, the said openings arranged in proximity to the front of the post.
4. In wire fence construction, a fence post having superposed spaced openings parallel to the front face thereof, fence wire coupling elements, each of said elements including a head and a shank formed of a pair of parts disposed at right angles to each other, one of said parts being of greater length than the other, the said other part being looped at its free end for encompassing afence wire, each of said heads abutting a side of the post, said elongated parts mounted in said openings and said other parts abutting a side of the post and extending towards and having the looped ends thereof arranged beyond said front for anchoring fence wires againstthe latter. said elements being alternately disposed with respect to each other, the said openings arranged in proximity to the front of the post.
5. In wire fence construction, a post including a pair of sides and a front, fence wire coupling elements extending through said post, abutting the sides of the post and projecting beyond the front of the post, said elements having means at one end for anchoring fence wires against said front, and said elements being alternately disposed relatively to each other. i
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature hereto.
