Description
Patented June 9, 1931 UNITED STATES EDWARD J. FILIBURN, F TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA SLIDER RAIL CLAMP Application filed December 3 0, 1929. Serial No. 417,522.
This invention relates to a clamp for slider rai s used particularly in mines.
As the entries, rooms or tunnels in mines are advanced a considerable distance a pair of rails known as work-ways are permanently laid 011 the ties in the well known manner. l/Vhen the tunnel is further advanced a short distance, another pair of rails are laid on their sides, known as slider rails until the 10 tunnel is far enough advanced to extend the work-ways. The tops of the slider rails fit into the grooves of the work-way rails the same being held together.
The object of this invention is to design a clamping means simple in structure that is adapted to hold the slider rails and workways securely together.
Reference is now had to the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a cross-sectional view of the slider rail clamp in operative position, and
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof. The slider rail clamp 10 is preferably made of a steel plate rectangular in form and comprises a bottom 11, a back 12 substantially at right angles to the bottom 11, and an inwardly bent portion 13 which is spaced from the bottom 11. The inner edge 14 of the inwardly bent portion 13 is'parallel to the surface of the back 12.
Positioned, transversely to a work-way rail 15, in the manner shown in Figure 1, is a slider rail 16. To maintain the same in engagement, theslider clamp 10 is slid under both rails, the bent over portion 13 engaging the flange 17 of the work-way rail 15' as shown. Between the flange of the slider rail 16 and the back 12 of the clamp 10, is a wood plank 19 which serves as a wedge to securely look all of said elements together.
While a preferred embodiment of slider rail clamp has been shown, the same is nevertheless susceptible of various modifications within the scope'of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is p n An inexpensive slider rail clamp comprising a flat rail supporting bottom, and one end of said bottom projecting upwardly at right
