MARY LOUISE TRAVER, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURN-DASHERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,963, dated August 8, 1876; application filed July 3, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY L. TRAVEB, of the city of Detroit, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Churn; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal-vertical section. Fig: 2 is a vertical cross-section. Fig. 3 is a crosssection of one of the spokes of the dasher.
. The object of my invention is to produce a cheap and efi'ective dasher or agitator for churns, ice-cream freezers, &c.; and it consists in a novel construction of dasher, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the said drawings, A is the casing of churn, and journaled in its ends, at a a, is the main shaft of the dasher D. Radiating from this central shaft, and arranged alternately, are a series of spokes, c 0, having two sharp edges, 1) b, being diamond-shaped in cross-section, as seen in Fig. 3. Set into the ends of these spokes are four longitudinal slats, E, having in their outer surfaces rectangular grooves e c.
When the dasher is rotated, the grooves e e in the slats E carry the air into the cream, and the peculiar shape of the spokes c 0 produces constantly-varying and broken currents, and thereby the agitation is more thorough and complete, as regular rotary currents are avoided.
It is evident that my invention may be utilized as a stirrer in an ice-cream freezer, or in a variety of positions where agitation or stirring is required.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In an agitator or dasher, the cross-sectional diamond-shaped spokes c c, in combination with the slats E, provided with rectangular grooves e e, substantially as described.
MARY LOUISE TRAVER.
